9:00 AM: Hotel Pick-Up in Cusco

Your Cusco City, Sacred Valley & Machu Picchu Tour 3 Days begins with pick-up from your hotel or accommodation in Cusco at approximately 9:00 AM. After meeting your professional guide, you will begin exploring the historic center of Cusco and some of the most important cultural and archaeological attractions of the former capital of the Inca Empire. The exact pick-up time will be confirmed one day before the tour and may vary slightly depending on your hotel location and local traffic conditions.

Visit to San Pedro Market

The first stop is the traditional San Pedro Market, one of the best places to observe the daily life of local residents. During the visit, you will walk through colorful sections filled with fresh fruits, vegetables, local products, traditional foods, medicinal herbs, flowers, and handicrafts. Your guide will explain the importance of the market in Cusco’s everyday life and how it reflects the region’s cultural traditions.

Plaza de Armas and Historic Center of Cusco

After San Pedro Market, we will continue to the Plaza de Armas of Cusco, one of the most beautiful and historically important squares in Peru. Here, you will appreciate the combination of Inca foundations and colonial architecture while your guide explains the historical transformation of Cusco after the arrival of the Spanish. From the main square, you will continue walking through some of the most important streets of the historic center.

Twelve-Angled Stone and Traditional Inca Streets

The walking tour continues through streets that still preserve original Inca stonework. One of the highlights is the famous Twelve-Angled Stone, an extraordinary example of Inca engineering and precision stone construction. Your guide will explain how the Incas built walls without mortar and how these structures have remained standing for centuries. You will also explore narrow streets and traditional neighborhoods where Inca and colonial architecture coexist.

Visit to the San Blas Neighborhood

We will continue toward San Blas, one of Cusco’s most traditional and artistic neighborhoods. Known for its narrow streets, artisan workshops, galleries, and panoramic views, San Blas offers a different perspective of the city. You will have time to walk through the neighborhood, appreciate its atmosphere, and learn about its importance as a center for local artists and craftsmen.

Traditional Cusco Lunch

After exploring the historic center, you will enjoy an included lunch at a local restaurant specializing in traditional Cusco cuisine. This is an opportunity to taste typical regional dishes and take a short break before continuing with the afternoon archaeological visits. The exact menu may vary according to the restaurant and season.

Visit to Qorikancha

After lunch, we will visit Qorikancha, one of the most important religious centers of the Inca Empire. Also known as the Temple of the Sun, Qorikancha was famous for its exceptional stonework and religious importance. During the guided visit, you will learn about Inca beliefs, ceremonial practices, architecture, and the later construction of the Santo Domingo convent over part of the original Inca complex.

Visit to Sacsayhuaman

The tour then continues outside the historic center to Sacsayhuaman, one of the most impressive archaeological sites surrounding Cusco. Here, you will see enormous stone blocks fitted together with extraordinary precision. Your guide will explain the possible ceremonial and defensive functions of the complex, as well as its importance in Inca history.

Visit to Qenqo

The next stop is Qenqo, an archaeological site known for its carved rock formations, underground passages, ceremonial spaces, and channels. Your guide will explain the theories surrounding the religious and ritual use of the site during the Inca period.

Visit to Puka Pukara

We will then continue to Puka Pukara, an archaeological complex located along an ancient Inca route. The site contains terraces, walls, stairways, and structures believed to have served administrative, military, or control functions. From here, you can also enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding Andean landscape.

Visit to Tambomachay

The final archaeological stop of the day is Tambomachay, known for its beautifully constructed water channels and fountains. This site is believed to have had ceremonial importance related to water, purification, and possibly the worship of natural elements. Your guide will explain the significance of water in Inca culture and the impressive hydraulic engineering visible at the site.

5:30 PM: Return to Your Hotel in Cusco

After completing the visit to the four Inca sites, we will return to Cusco. Arrival at your hotel is expected at approximately 5:30 PM, depending on traffic, visitor flow, and the pace of the group. This first day provides a complete introduction to Cusco, combining local culture, traditional food, colonial history, Inca architecture, and the most important archaeological sites surrounding the city.

What to Pack

How to Dress and What to Pack for the Cusco City, Sacred Valley & Machu Picchu Tour 3 Days

The Cusco City, Sacred Valley & Machu Picchu Tour 3 Days combines city sightseeing, archaeological visits, train travel, hotel accommodation, and a guided visit to Machu Picchu. Because you will travel through different elevations and climates, weather conditions can vary considerably throughout the three days. Cusco may be cool in the morning and evening, the Sacred Valley is often warmer during the day, and Machu Picchu can be humid with occasional rain. For this reason, we recommend dressing in layers and packing light, practical clothing.

How to Dress

  • Wear comfortable, lightweight, and breathable clothing suitable for walking and sightseeing. Bring enough T-shirts or quick-drying tops for the three-day itinerary, along with comfortable hiking pants, travel pants, or other flexible clothing that allows easy movement during archaeological visits.
  • Use comfortable walking shoes, hiking shoes, or sneakers with good grip, as you will walk on stone paths, archaeological sites, stairs, and uneven surfaces throughout Cusco, the Sacred Valley, and Machu Picchu.
  • Bring a warm fleece, sweater, or light jacket for the cooler mornings and evenings, especially in Cusco and during early departures. A lightweight waterproof jacket or rain poncho is also highly recommended because rain can occur at any time of the year.
  • For sun protection, wear a hat or cap, UV-protective sunglasses, and high-SPF sunscreen. We recommend avoiding sandals, flip-flops, high heels, and footwear with slippery soles during the sightseeing portions of the tour.

What to Carry in Your Backpack

Bring a small and comfortable daypack containing only the essential items you will need throughout the three-day journey. Large suitcases or unnecessary luggage can be left in Cusco while you travel to the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu.

  • Original Passport: Your passport is essential for train travel, hotel registration, and entrance to Machu Picchu. Keep it with you at all times.
  • Original Student ID: If you booked using a student discount, carry the same valid student identification used for your reservation, as it may be required at entrance controls.
  • Train, Bus, Hotel, and Entrance Documents: Keep printed or digital copies of your important travel documents, including train tickets, Machu Picchu entrance information, bus tickets, and hotel confirmation.
  • Reusable Water Bottle: Staying hydrated is especially important when traveling at altitude and during long sightseeing days.
  • Light Snacks: Pack simple snacks such as fruit, nuts, energy bars, crackers, or similar items for the journey between attractions.
  • High-SPF Sunscreen: Sun exposure can be intense in Cusco and the Sacred Valley due to the altitude, even when the weather feels cool or cloudy.
  • Insect Repellent: Recommended especially for Machu Picchu Pueblo and Machu Picchu, where the climate is warmer and more humid than Cusco.
  • Rain Protection: Carry a lightweight rain poncho or waterproof jacket. This is particularly important during the rainy season but is useful throughout the year.
  • Personal Toiletries: Bring the basic toiletries you will need for your overnight stay in Aguas Calientes, keeping your luggage as light as possible.
  • Personal Medication: Carry all prescribed medication and any essential personal medical items. Do not pack necessary medication in luggage that will be stored separately.
  • Camera or Smartphone: Machu Picchu, Cusco, and the Sacred Valley provide excellent photography opportunities. Keep electronic devices protected from rain and humidity.
  • Portable Charger / Power Bank: A portable charger is useful during long sightseeing days when access to electrical outlets may be limited.
  • Cash in Peruvian Soles: Carry some cash for meals not included, drinks, souvenirs, optional purchases, tips, and other personal expenses. Small vendors may not always accept cards.
  • Waterproof Pouch or Protective Bag: Use a waterproof pouch to protect your passport, tickets, mobile phone, money, and other valuables from rain and humidity.
  • Change of Clothing: Bring clean underwear, socks, and additional T-shirts or lightweight clothing for the three-day itinerary.

Important Packing Recommendation: We recommend packing light and carrying only what you really need for the three-day journey. Keep your passport, tickets, money, electronic devices, and other valuables with you at all times. Dressing in layers and traveling with a lightweight backpack will make it easier to move comfortably between Cusco, the Sacred Valley, Ollantaytambo, Aguas Calientes, and Machu Picchu, while staying prepared for changing weather conditions throughout the trip.

We recommend booking as early as possible, especially if you are traveling during the high season, because Machu Picchu entrance tickets, preferred circuits, Vistadome train seats, and hotels can sell out in advance. Last-minute reservations may still be possible when all required services remain available, but early booking gives you a better chance of securing your preferred travel dates and services.

Travel Guide

WHY BOOK THE CUSCO CITY, SACRED VALLEY & MACHU PICCHU TOUR 3 DAYS WITH US?

1. One Complete 3-Day Experience

This tour is designed to help you experience the best of Cusco, the Sacred Valley, and Machu Picchu in just three days. Instead of booking transportation, guides, entrance tickets, trains, hotels, buses, and meals separately, Machu Picchu Team coordinates the essential services in one organized package.

2. 100% Local Tour Operator in Cusco

Machu Picchu Team is a local tour operator based in Cusco, giving us direct knowledge of the destinations, routes, transportation, archaeological sites, train connections, and local logistics. Being locally based also allows us to provide faster assistance before, during, and after your tour.

3. Professional English-Speaking Guides

Your experience is supported by professional English-speaking guides with knowledge of Inca history, archaeology, Andean culture, and the main attractions of the Cusco region. Our guides do more than explain the sites—they also help coordinate schedules, entrances, transportation, and the overall flow of your journey.

4. Carefully Designed Itinerary with the Main Highlights

The itinerary combines some of the most important attractions in the region, including Cusco City, Qorikancha, the archaeological sites around Cusco, Chinchero, Moray, Maras Salt Mines, Ollantaytambo, the Sacred Valley, and Machu Picchu. The route is organized to help you make the most of your available time while experiencing history, culture, landscapes, traditional communities, and archaeological sites.

5. Machu Picchu Tickets and Train Logistics Organized for You

One of the most complicated parts of organizing a trip to Machu Picchu is coordinating entrance tickets, circuits, train schedules, buses, hotel accommodation, and transportation connections. Our reservations and operations teams coordinate these services together, helping reduce the stress of organizing each component independently. We also work to secure the most suitable available Machu Picchu route according to your confirmed itinerary.

6. Vistadome Train Experience to Machu Picchu

Subject to availability, the tour includes a Vistadome train from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes, allowing you to enjoy panoramic views of the Sacred Valley, mountains, rivers, and changing landscapes as you travel toward Machu Picchu. The return journey is coordinated with an Expedition train, followed by transportation from Ollantaytambo back to Cusco.

7. Comfortable 3-Star Hotel in Aguas Calientes

Your package includes one night in a 3-star hotel in Aguas Calientes, allowing you to rest comfortably before visiting Machu Picchu. Staying overnight near the archaeological site also makes it possible to begin your Machu Picchu experience early the following day without having to travel from Cusco that same morning.

8. Small and Well-Organized Groups

For the Cusco City and Sacred Valley sections, groups usually consist of approximately 12 to 14 travelers, with a maximum of 16 participants. At Machu Picchu, guided groups are kept smaller, generally with up to 10 travelers per guide, helping provide clearer explanations, better coordination, and a more comfortable experience inside the archaeological site.

9. Door-to-Door Coordination and Comfortable Transportation

We coordinate the main transportation required throughout the itinerary, including hotel pick-up when applicable, tourist transportation around Cusco and the Sacred Valley, train connections, Machu Picchu buses, and the return transfer from Ollantaytambo to Cusco. This means you spend less time worrying about logistics and more time enjoying your trip.

10. Meals Included During the Journey

The package includes 2 lunches, 1 dinner, and 1 breakfast, helping make the three-day itinerary more convenient and complete. Travelers with vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, or other dietary requirements can inform our team in advance so we can coordinate suitable alternatives whenever available.

11. Physical Office in the Historic Center of Cusco

Machu Picchu Team has a physical office in central Cusco, giving travelers the security of knowing where to find our team before or after the tour. You can visit us to receive information, confirm your reservation, ask questions, make arrangements, or receive personalized assistance directly from our staff.

12. Professional Support from Beginning to End

From the moment you make your reservation until you complete your journey, our reservations, operations, guides, drivers, and support staff work together to coordinate the different parts of your trip. Our objective is to provide a well-organized, reliable, comfortable, and memorable journey through Cusco, the Sacred Valley, and Machu Picchu, with one local team supporting you throughout the entire experience.
