Before departure, our staff will verify the passenger list, confirm the main details of the itinerary, and provide the final recommendations for the journey. Our office is located at Portal Nuevo 270, Plaza Regocijo, Cusco, just one block from the Plaza de Armas. We recommend arriving a few minutes early with a small backpack containing everything you will need for the two-day trip.
Overland Journey from Cusco to Hidroelectrica
Once the group is ready, we begin the scenic road journey from Cusco to Hidroelectrica. The drive normally takes approximately 5 to 6 hours, although the exact duration may vary depending on traffic, weather, road conditions, and operational circumstances. The route offers a constantly changing landscape as you leave the high Andes and descend toward warmer valleys. Along the way, you will pass through mountain scenery, agricultural areas, cloud forest, and subtropical environments. The journey generally continues through the Ollantaytambo area, Abra Málaga, Santa María, and Santa Teresa before reaching Hidroelectrica.
Short comfort or scenic stops may be made during the drive whenever conditions and the daily schedule allow.
Lunch Before the Walk
Upon reaching Hidroelectrica, you will stop for an included lunch at a local restaurant. This is a good opportunity to rest and recharge before beginning the walking section toward Machu Picchu Pueblo. Before you start walking, our tour representative will provide the essential information about the route, expected walking time, safety recommendations, and the arrangements for your arrival in Aguas Calientes.
Walk from Hidroelectrica to Aguas Calientes
After lunch, begin the scenic walk from Hidroelectrica to Machu Picchu Pueblo, also known as Aguas Calientes. The route is approximately 11 km and usually takes around 3 to 3.5 hours, depending on your walking pace and trail conditions. The trail follows the railway corridor through a lush valley surrounded by mountains and tropical vegetation. Along the way, you will walk near the Vilcanota River, pass through forested areas, and enjoy the dramatic scenery surrounding the Machu Picchu Sanctuary.
This section is completed independently without a guide accompanying the group along the entire walk. The route is well established and commonly used by travelers heading toward Aguas Calientes. You will generally encounter other hikers making the same journey. Although the path is not technically difficult and is mostly gradual, we recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes, carrying sufficient water, and being prepared for warm temperatures, humidity, wind, or occasional rain.
Arrival in Machu Picchu Pueblo
Once you arrive in Machu Picchu Pueblo, you can proceed to the agreed meeting point or directly to your hotel according to the instructions provided before departure. The town is compact and easy to navigate, with most hotels, restaurants, shops, and the main square located within a short walking distance. After checking in, you will have time to shower, rest, organize your belongings, and prepare for your visit to Machu Picchu the following morning.
Dinner and Machu Picchu Briefing
In the evening, you will enjoy an included dinner at a local restaurant in Aguas Calientes.
Before or after dinner, your Machu Picchu guide will meet with you for an important briefing about Day 2. During this meeting, the guide will explain your confirmed Machu Picchu entrance time, assigned circuit and route, meeting point, transportation options, required documents, and return arrangements. After the briefing, the rest of the evening is free for you to relax, walk around the town, or simply rest before the next day’s visit to Machu Picchu.

Early Morning Start for Machu Picchu
Your second day begins very early so you can make the most of your visit to Machu Picchu. Depending on your confirmed entrance time, you will wake up at approximately 4:45 AM, have breakfast at the hotel around 5:00 AM, complete check-out, and prepare for the journey to the archaeological site. For travelers with an early entrance, the objective is to reach Machu Picchu close to opening time, when the site is generally quieter and the morning light creates a spectacular atmosphere over the surrounding mountains.
Transfer to the Machu Picchu Bus Station
At approximately 5:30 AM, you will meet your guide and walk to the official bus station in Machu Picchu Pueblo. From there, you will board the shuttle bus for the approximately 25-minute journey up the mountain to the main entrance of Machu Picchu.
Bus departure times may vary depending on your confirmed entrance schedule and the number of travelers waiting for transportation.
Entrance to Machu Picchu
Upon arrival, your guide will assist you with the entrance procedure and document verification before entering the archaeological site according to the date, time, circuit, and route printed on your official ticket. Once inside, you will begin discovering the extraordinary architecture, terraces, mountains, and landscapes that make Machu Picchu one of the most remarkable archaeological destinations in Peru.
Professional Guided Tour of Machu Picchu
Your professional guide will accompany you through the authorized route for approximately 2 to 2.5 hours, depending on your assigned circuit, visitor flow, and current regulations.
During the visit, your guide will explain the history of Machu Picchu, its construction techniques, architectural organization, ceremonial areas, agricultural terraces, and the role this extraordinary Inca settlement played within the Andean world. There will also be opportunities to stop at the viewpoints and areas permitted by your ticket for photographs and scenic observation. Please note that movement inside Machu Picchu follows one-way designated routes, so independent re-entry or returning to previously visited sectors is generally restricted.
Optional Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain Experience
If you have reserved an additional entrance for Huayna Picchu Mountain or Machu Picchu Mountain, you will continue with the corresponding mountain route according to the entrance time shown on your ticket. These optional hikes require additional physical effort and can extend your visit by approximately 3 to 4 hours, depending on the selected mountain, your pace, and trail conditions. Mountain tickets are limited and must be booked in advance. They cannot normally be added at the entrance on the day of the tour.
Bus Back to Machu Picchu Pueblo
After completing your Machu Picchu visit, proceed to the exit and board the official shuttle bus back to Machu Picchu Pueblo. The downhill journey takes approximately 25 minutes. Once you arrive in town, you will have free time to relax, explore the streets, purchase souvenirs, or enjoy lunch at a restaurant of your choice before your train departure. Lunch on Day 2 is not included unless it is specifically stated in your confirmed package.
Collect Your Luggage and Prepare for the Train
Before heading to the train station, return to your hotel to collect any luggage or personal belongings you left in storage after check-out. We recommend arriving at the train station with sufficient time for check-in and boarding procedures.
Train from Machu Picchu Pueblo to Ollantaytambo
In the afternoon, you will board your train from Machu Picchu Pueblo to Ollantaytambo. The scheduled service is generally around 2:30 PM or 2:55 PM, subject to availability and the train ticket confirmed for your reservation. The journey takes approximately 1.5 hours and follows a scenic route through the mountains and valleys surrounding Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley.
Transfer from Ollantaytambo to Cusco
Upon arrival at the Ollantaytambo train station, your driver will be waiting to meet you and continue the final overland journey back to Cusco. The transfer takes approximately 2 hours, with an estimated arrival in Cusco at around 7:00 PM, depending on your train arrival time, traffic, and road conditions.
If you prefer to finish your trip in the Sacred Valley, a drop-off may also be coordinated in destinations such as Ollantaytambo, Urubamba, Calca, or Pisac, provided this arrangement is confirmed in advance.
Important Information About Mountain Tickets
If you have booked Huayna Picchu Mountain or Machu Picchu Mountain, your schedule will be longer than that of travelers visiting only the main archaeological site.
A standard guided Machu Picchu visit generally finishes during the morning, while mountain hikers should allow an additional 3 to 4 hours before returning to Aguas Calientes. For this reason, travelers with mountain tickets may require a later return train depending on the entrance time and the duration of the hike.

Round-Trip Shuttle Bus Tickets to Machu Picchu
Round-trip official shuttle bus transportation between Machu Picchu Pueblo and the Machu Picchu archaeological site is included in the package. The uphill bus ride takes approximately 25 minutes, and the return journey takes approximately the same amount of time. These bus tickets do not normally include a specific seat number. Travelers board according to the operating procedure established at the bus station and the entrance time confirmed for Machu Picchu. Official Machu Picchu Entrance Ticket
Your package includes an official entrance ticket to Machu Picchu. We generally prioritize an early entrance time and one of the most complete available routes, such as Circuit 2 – Classic Circuit / Route 2-A, whenever availability allows. However, both the circuit and entrance time depend entirely on official ticket availability at the time your reservation is confirmed. If the preferred route or schedule is no longer available, our reservations team will assign the most suitable available alternative according to the itinerary of the tour. Your exact Machu Picchu circuit, route, and entrance time will be confirmed once the reservation process has been completed.

The tour includes the services of a professional English-speaking guide inside Machu Picchu. Return Train from Machu Picchu Pueblo to Ollantaytambo

Tourist Transportation from Ollantaytambo to Cusco
When your train arrives at Ollantaytambo station, a Machu Picchu Team representative or driver will be waiting to assist you with the final transfer to Cusco. The journey from Ollantaytambo to Cusco usually takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on traffic and road conditions. This coordinated transfer allows you to complete the journey without having to arrange separate transportation after your train trip.
Hotel Drop-Off in Cusco
At the end of the tour, transportation is provided back to your confirmed hotel or accommodation in Cusco, provided it is located within the regular service area. If your accommodation is located on a pedestrian street, in a restricted-access area, or outside central Cusco, we may arrange drop-off at the closest accessible point or at another previously confirmed meeting location.

Personal and Additional Expenses
Any personal purchases or optional expenses are not included in the tour price. These may include souvenirs, handicrafts, additional food or beverages, optional activities, extra transportation, personal shopping, or any service that is not specifically mentioned in the confirmed package. We recommend carrying some cash in Peruvian soles for small purchases and unexpected expenses during the trip.
Gratuities and Tips
Tips are not included in the tour price and are entirely voluntary. TERMS AND CONDITIONS
Deposit and Reservation Confirmation
A USD 180 non-refundable deposit per person is required to begin the reservation process. This deposit is used to secure key components of the package, especially the official Machu Picchu entrance ticket and return train ticket from Machu Picchu Pueblo to Ollantaytambo, which are generally non-refundable once issued.
Your reservation is considered fully confirmed once payment has been received, all required services have been verified, and Machu Picchu Team has issued your final written confirmation.
Cancellation and Refund Policy
The USD 180 deposit per traveler is non-refundable once it has been used to secure reservation services. If you cancel after paying more than the required deposit, any eligible refund will be calculated after deducting non-recoverable costs such as tickets, hotel charges, supplier fees, processing fees, and other associated expenses.
Any refundable balance depends on what can be recovered from suppliers.
Changes to Your Travel Date
Requests to modify the departure date depend on availability of Machu Picchu tickets, trains, hotels, guides, and transportation. Since tickets may not be reusable for another date, changes may require new purchases and a new USD 180 deposit per person, along with any price difference.
We recommend confirming your travel date carefully before booking.
Passenger Name and Passport Details
Passenger names must match the identification document used for the reservation. If passport details change after booking, you must contact us immediately to evaluate possible updates based on supplier conditions. In most cases, reservations cannot be transferred to another traveler once tickets are issued.
Remaining Balance
If only the deposit is paid, the remaining balance must be completed at least 24 hours before the tour begins unless otherwise specified. Payment can be made online, at our Cusco office, or in cash or card with applicable fees. Failure to complete payment on time may affect services not yet finalized.
Optional Mountain Tickets and Upgrades
Optional services such as Huayna Picchu, Machu Picchu Mountain, hotel upgrades, private transport, or train upgrades depend on availability. Once confirmed, these services may become non-refundable and non-transferable.
Machu Picchu Entrance Time and Circuit
Your Machu Picchu ticket is issued based on availability, with priority given to Circuit 2 when possible. If not available, an alternative circuit will be assigned to ensure the itinerary operates correctly.
Return Train Schedule
The return train from Machu Picchu Pueblo to Ollantaytambo is generally scheduled around 2:30 PM with Inca Rail or 2:50 PM with PeruRail, depending on availability. Alternative schedules may be assigned if necessary.
Hotel Accommodation
The package includes one night in Machu Picchu Pueblo. The hotel is assigned based on availability and may be replaced with a similar category if needed. Check-in and check-out times depend on the hotel.
Transportation and Operational Changes
