NEW MACHU PICCHU CIRCUITS TO VISIT IN 2026

New Machu Picchu Circuits and Routes – Updated for 2026

The current Machu Picchu circuit system came into effect on June 1, 2024, following regulations established by Peru’s Ministry of Culture. The previous visitor routes were reorganized into 3 main circuits comprising 10 official routes, designed to improve visitor flow, reduce congestion, and strengthen the conservation of the archaeological site. These routes continue to form the official visitor system in 2026. At Machu Picchu Team, we understand that the different circuits and routes can sometimes be confusing, especially for travelers booking Machu Picchu for the first time. Each ticket provides access to a specific circuit and route, and the areas you can visit, panoramic viewpoints, archaeological sectors, and walking time vary depending on the ticket selected.

The 3 Official Machu Picchu Circuits

For 2026, Machu Picchu continues to operate with the following main visitor circuits:

  • Circuit 1 – Panoramic
Designed primarily for travelers who want panoramic views of Machu Picchu and the surrounding mountains. It includes Routes 1-A, 1-B, 1-C, and 1-D, although Routes 1-C and 1-D are available only during the designated high season.
  • Circuit 2 – Machu Picchu Classic
This is one of the most sought-after options because it combines panoramic views with access through important areas of the archaeological complex. It includes Route 2-A and Route 2-B, both of which are available throughout the year.
  • Circuit 3 – Machu Picchu Royalty
This circuit focuses mainly on the lower archaeological sector and includes routes connected with some of Machu Picchu’s most important structures and mountain hikes. It includes Routes 3-A, 3-B, 3-C, and 3-D, with some routes operating only during the high season.
Important Information for 2026 Reservations

The Ministry of Culture has confirmed the ticketing process for Machu Picchu visits in 2026, with reservations and payments handled through the official government ticket platform. The government has also established a maximum capacity of 5,600 visitors per day during designated high-demand dates in 2026, including January 1, April 2–5, June 19–November 2, and December 30–31. Because each route has its own capacity, availability can vary significantly between circuits, especially during the busiest months. For this reason, we strongly recommend booking your Machu Picchu tour and entrance ticket as early as possible if you have a preferred circuit.

Your Machu Picchu Circuit Depends on Availability

When you book a tour with Machu Picchu Team, our reservation team will always try to secure the most suitable available circuit according to your tour itinerary and travel date. However, Machu Picchu entrance tickets are controlled exclusively by the Peruvian Ministry of Culture, not by Machu Picchu Team or any other travel agency. Once a particular route is sold out, travel agencies cannot create additional spaces or independently change the official capacity established by the government. If your preferred circuit is unavailable, our team may recommend the best available alternative route and explain the main differences before proceeding whenever the booking conditions allow.

Special Information for Inca Trail Travelers

There is also an important 2026 update for travelers arriving through the Inca Trail network. The Ministry of Culture established that visitors entering Machu Picchu from the Inca Trail can access Route 3-B, subject to a specific limited daily allocation that must be reserved and paid for in advance through authorized agencies. This rule is particularly important for travelers booking the traditional Inca Trail or other programs that enter Machu Picchu through the official Inca Trail network.

Why Did the Machu Picchu Circuits Change?

The circuit system was introduced to better organize the movement of thousands of daily visitors through a highly sensitive archaeological site. By separating visitors into designated routes, the Ministry of Culture aims to manage visitor flows, reduce pressure on specific archaeological areas, improve the visitor experience, and protect Machu Picchu for future generations.

Machu Picchu Team Will Help You Choose the Right Circuit

If you have a reservation with Machu Picchu Team, our team can help you understand which circuit is included with your tour, what areas you will visit, and what alternatives may be available if your preferred route is already sold out. Because availability changes constantly, the most important recommendation is to book early, particularly for Circuit 2, mountain routes, and travel during the high season. Our goal is to make the Machu Picchu ticketing process as clear and straightforward as possible so that you can focus on enjoying one of the most extraordinary archaeological destinations in the world.

Discover the Machu Picchu Circuits

  • Circuit 1 – Panoramic Circuit: This circuit is primarily designed for visitors who want to enjoy spectacular panoramic views of Machu Picchu and its surrounding mountains.
  • Circuit 2 – Classic Machu Picchu Circuit: This circuit offers a more traditional visit to Machu Picchu, combining iconic panoramic viewpoints with access to important areas of the archaeological site.
  • Circuit 3 – Machu Picchu Royalty Circuit: This circuit focuses mainly on the lower sector of Machu Picchu and provides access to important archaeological areas associated with the royal and ceremonial sections of the Inca citadel.

CIRCUIT 1 – PANORAMIC

This circuit is characterized by offering wide and panoramic views of the Inca City of Machu Picchu and its sacred mountains, providing visitors with a deeper connection to the surrounding Andean landscape and its spiritual significance. Circuit 1 includes four (4) different routes, all of which take visitors to the upper areas of Machu Picchu. These routes follow narrow pathways and offer extraordinary views of the archaeological site and its natural surroundings, going far beyond the traditional classic photo. Each route requires a different level of physical effort, but the experience is rewarded with spectacular scenery, impressive Inca architecture, the remarkable organization of buildings constructed along the mountain slopes, and the extraordinary harmony between Machu Picchu and its natural environment.

CIRCUIT ROUTES:

CIRCUIT 2 – CLASSIC CIRCUIT

This circuit is characterized by combining a visit to the agricultural terraces in the middle sector with access to the urban area of the Inca City of Machu Picchu. Along the route, visitors can explore buildings that were used as residences, as well as ceremonial and ritual spaces associated with the observation of the stars and other important aspects of Inca culture. Circuit 2 includes two routes, both of which require a moderate level of physical effort and provide a more complete experience of Machu Picchu’s archaeological and urban areas.

CIRCUIT ROUTES:

CIRCUIT 3 – MACHU PICCHU ROYALTY

This circuit consists of four routes and is characterized by providing access to some of the most sacred and important areas associated with Inca royalty within Machu Picchu, including the Temple of the Sun, the House of the Inca, the Temple of the Condor, and other significant archaeological sectors. The main sections of Circuit 3 generally require less physical effort compared with some of the other circuits. However, travelers who choose to hike Huayna Picchu Mountain, Huchuy Picchu Mountain, or continue toward the Great Cavern should be prepared for a more demanding experience that requires additional physical effort and more time.
