TRIP ITINERARY

DAY 01:

Puno Hotel Pick-Up → Uros Floating Islands → Amantani Island → Local Family Homestay

The first day of the Lake Titicaca 2-Day Tour begins at approximately 7:50 AM with pick-up from selected hotels located in central Puno. From your hotel, we transfer to the port, where you will board the boat and begin your journey across the waters of Lake Titicaca.

At around 8:00 AM, the boat departs toward the famous Uros Floating Islands. After approximately 30 minutes of navigation, we arrive at the islands, where you will learn how the local Uros communities traditionally construct their floating islands, homes, and boats using totora reeds.

During the visit, your guide will explain the history, customs, and daily life of the Uros people while you enjoy the unique scenery of the lake. After the visit, we continue by boat toward Amantani Island, one of the most traditional inhabited islands on Lake Titicaca.

At approximately 1:00 PM, we arrive at Amantani, where a local host family will welcome you and accompany you to their home. This homestay experience is one of the highlights of the tour and provides an opportunity to experience local island life in a more personal and authentic way.

At around 2:00 PM, you will enjoy a traditional lunch prepared by your host family using local ingredients. After lunch, there will be time to rest and become familiar with the surroundings before beginning the afternoon activity.

At approximately 4:00 PM, we begin a walk toward the island’s traditional ceremonial areas and viewpoints. From the higher sections of Amantani, you can enjoy impressive panoramic views of Lake Titicaca and the surrounding Andean landscape. Your guide will also explain the cultural importance of the island’s sacred sites and local traditions.

After the walk, we return to the family home. Dinner is served at approximately 6:00 PM, followed by time to relax and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of Amantani Island.

At around 8:00 PM, travelers may participate in a traditional local gathering or cultural evening organized for visitors. This activity generally lasts about one hour and may include local music, traditional clothing, and dancing, providing an enjoyable introduction to the island’s cultural traditions.

You will spend the night in a local family homestay on Amantani Island, completing the first day with a meaningful cultural experience in one of Lake Titicaca’s most traditional communities.

Not Included

Travel Insurance

Travel insurance is not included in the Lake Titicaca 2-Day Tour. We strongly recommend that all travelers have suitable travel insurance covering medical assistance, accidents, trip interruption, transportation delays, lost or damaged belongings, and other unexpected situations that may occur during their journey in Peru.

Personal and Additional Expenses

Any personal or additional expenses not specifically listed in the tour inclusions are not included in the package price. These may include extra snacks, bottled drinks, souvenirs, handicrafts, optional activities, additional services, or personal purchases made on the islands.

We recommend carrying a small amount of cash in Peruvian soles, as local families, community vendors, and small businesses on Uros, Amantani, and Taquile may not accept credit or debit cards.

What to Pack

What to Wear & What to Pack – Lake Titicaca 2-Day Tour

Lake Titicaca is located at high altitude, where weather conditions can change quickly. Mornings and evenings can be cold, daytime sunlight is strong, and wind is common while traveling by boat between Uros, Amantani, and Taquile Islands. Because this is a 2-day tour with an overnight stay on Amantani Island, we recommend packing light but bringing enough warm clothing and personal items for one night.

What to Wear

  • Comfortable layered clothing: Wear a breathable T-shirt or base layer together with a warm fleece or sweater so you can adjust easily to temperature changes.
  • Windproof or waterproof jacket: Recommended for cold winds during boat journeys and for protection from occasional rain.
  • Comfortable long pants: Ideal for walking on Amantani and Taquile, where trails may include slopes, stone paths, and uneven terrain.
  • Comfortable walking or trekking shoes: Choose shoes with good grip and that are already broken in.
  • Sun hat or cap: Essential for protection from strong high-altitude sunlight.
  • Sunglasses with UV protection: Highly recommended because sunlight and reflection from the lake can be intense.
  • Warm hat and light gloves: Useful for the evening on Amantani and during colder early-morning hours.

What to Pack in Your Daypack

  • Original passport or identification document
  • Warm fleece or lightweight jacket
  • Waterproof or windproof outer layer
  • Sun hat or cap
  • Sunglasses
  • High-SPF sunscreen
  • Lip balm with sun protection
  • Reusable water bottle
  • Personal medication
  • Camera or smartphone
  • Portable charger or power bank
  • Small amount of cash in Peruvian soles for drinks, souvenirs, handicrafts, tips, or optional purchases
  • Light snacks for the boat journeys or island walks
  • Rain poncho, particularly during the rainy season
  • Basic toiletries for the overnight stay
  • Toothbrush and toothpaste
  • Small quick-drying towel, if desired
  • Change of clothes and underwear for Day 2
  • Moisturizer, as the high-altitude environment can be dry
  • Small flashlight or headlamp, useful at the family homestay in Amantani

Important Recommendation

For the Lake Titicaca 2-Day Tour, the best strategy is to dress in layers and travel with a small overnight backpack rather than carrying your main luggage. Weather can change from strong sun to cold wind or rain within the same day, so having warm and waterproof layers easily accessible will make the journey much more comfortable. If you are traveling with larger suitcases, we recommend leaving unnecessary luggage in storage and carrying only the personal items required for your one-night stay on Amantani Island.

Machu Picchu Team may make reasonable adjustments when necessary while maintaining the main experiences of the tour whenever possible.

Weather and Navigation Conditions

Lake Titicaca is located at high altitude, and weather conditions can change quickly. Strong winds, rain, storms, or other conditions may affect navigation between Uros, Amantani, Taquile, and Puno. Any refund will depend on the applicable cancellation conditions and on costs already incurred for transportation, entrance fees, accommodation, meals, local families, guides, or other non-recoverable services.

Changes to the Travel Date

Requests to change the departure date are subject to availability and should be submitted as early as possible. Changes cannot be guaranteed after boat services, accommodation, meals, or other local arrangements have been confirmed. Any additional cost will be communicated before the modification is completed.
