TRIP ITINERARY
Cusco Hotel Pick-Up → Ollantaytambo → Abra Málaga 60 km Biking → Rafting → Night in Santa María
Pickup and transfer to Ollantaytambo
The Inca Jungle Trail 4 days to Machu Picchu begins in Cusco with pickup from your hotel or Airbnb, between 5:30 and 6:00 am. Your guide will arrive together with the vehicle to pick you up from your accommodation in the city. Pickup from the town of Ollantaytambo is also available, around 7:30 am. After picking up all participants in Cusco, we’ll drive for approximately 2 hours to the town of Ollantaytambo, where we’ll stop for about an hour to have breakfast at a local restaurant (breakfast included).
Transfer to the biking starting point (Abra Málaga)
After breakfast, we’ll continue in the same vehicle for 45 more minutes to Abra Málaga, located at 4,300 meters above sea level, the starting point for the biking activity. Here, your guide will walk you through the activity and provide your bike and all necessary safety equipment.
Downhill biking to Huamanmarca
You’ll begin the downhill bike ride, lasting 3 to 4 hours and covering approximately 60 km, until reaching Huamanmarca. Upon arrival, you’ll leave your bike and safety gear behind for a guided visit to the Huamanmarca Inca archaeological site.
Transfer and lunch in Santa María
After the guided visit, we’ll continue by vehicle for about 30 more minutes to the town of Santa María, where you’ll have lunch and spend the night. You’ll usually arrive in Santa María around 1:00 pm, when lunch will be served.
Rafting on the Urubamba River
After lunch, you’ll have some time to rest before being transferred to the Urubamba River for the rafting activity. You’ll be accompanied by a specialized rafting guide, who will provide all the necessary safety equipment. The rafting takes place through rapids of up to class III, lasting approximately 1.5 hours.
Return to Santa María
After rafting, you’ll return to the town of Santa María, with time to shower and get ready before dinner, usually served around 7:00 pm. Afterward, you’ll rest at your accommodation in the town of Santa María, located at 1,200 meters above sea level.
- Important Note
Throughout this day, the vehicle that takes you to the biking starting point will stay behind the group during the entire activity, so you can leave your personal belongings inside the vehicle while the activity takes place. This vehicle also serves as emergency support: if any participant doesn’t wish to continue biking or feels unsafe, they can board the vehicle and continue behind the group. During the rafting activity, your personal belongings will remain at the hotel, since you’ll arrive there before this activity takes place.

- Private transportation from Cusco to the biking starting point
- Meals: breakfast, lunch, and dinner
- Activities: biking and rafting, with safety equipment included

Wake-up and breakfast
Day 2 of the adventure begins with wake-up around 6:00 am, followed by breakfast around 6:30 am at a local restaurant.
Start of the hike to the original Inca trail
After breakfast, around 7:00 am, we’ll begin the hike from Santa María, walking about 45 minutes along the road to the starting point of the original Inca trail.
Ascent along the Inca trail
Once at the trailhead, we’ll begin a gentle ascent lasting approximately 2 hours, passing through fruit tree plantations — such as tangerine and orange — as well as coca crops. Along the way, your guide will explain everything about this section of the trail. We’ll continue along an Inca path lined with stone stairways until reaching a point where an Inca tambo (way station) is located, offering spectacular views over the entire Urubamba River valley and the Santa Teresa valley.
Descent to Quellomayo (lunch)
After enjoying the views and taking photos, we’ll continue along the Inca Trail, now on a gentle downhill stretch of about 45 minutes, until reaching Quellomayo, where we’ll stop for a nutritious lunch and some time to rest and recharge.
Hike to the Cocalmayo hot springs
After lunch, we’ll continue with another 2 hours of hiking, over mostly flat terrain, heading toward the Cocalmayo hot springs. Upon arrival, you’ll have approximately 2 hours to enjoy this beautiful spot and its relaxing thermal waters (entrance fee of S/10, not included), which features several thermal pools.
Transfer to Lucmabamba – Sky Star Domes
After enjoying the hot springs, a vehicle will pick you up between 5:00 and 6:00 pm to take you from the Cocalmayo hot springs to the Sky Star Domes in Lucmabamba. The ride takes approximately 45 minutes, passing through Santa Teresa, until reaching the Lucmabamba lodge, where you’ll stay in a crystal dome.
Dinner and rest
You’ll have time to settle into your dome, and dinner will be served at the Lucmabamba lodge around 7:30 pm. After dinner, you’ll have some free time to relax at the lodge before heading to bed to rest up for Day 3 of the adventure.
- Important Note
This is a full day of hiking, so you’ll need to carry all your belongings in your backpack, since there is no luggage transport service on this day. If you’d prefer not to carry your things, you can send them by local transport to the Cocalmayo hot springs, at an approximate cost of S/20. That said, if you check our recommended packing list, you’ll notice it’s a short list of items that you can easily carry in your backpack without any issue.

Coffee tour with a local family
After breakfast, around 7:00 am, we’ll head to a local family’s home for the coffee tour, where you’ll have the chance to learn all about the coffee cultivation process and taste the delicious organic coffee from Lucmabamba, since this area produces some of the best organic coffee in the Cusco region. This activity lasts approximately 1 hour.
Zipline
After the coffee tour, we’ll head about 10 minutes to the zipline base, where guides will brief you on the activity and provide all necessary safety equipment. This activity lasts 1.5 to 2 hours and includes 5 cables (the longest measuring 900 meters and the shortest 700 meters) and a 300-meter Tibetan bridge, all set approximately 500 meters above the Salkantay River.
Transfer and lunch in Hidroeléctrica
After the zipline, a vehicle will transport you for approximately 1 hour to Hidroeléctrica, where you’ll enjoy lunch and have about 1 hour to rest.
Hike to Machu Picchu Pueblo
After lunch, you’ll begin the approximately 3-hour hike to Machu Picchu Pueblo, following the railway line for 11 kilometers. Along the way, you’ll be able to spot parts of Machu Picchu, since the trail runs along the base of the Machu Picchu and Huayna Picchu mountains.
Arrival in Machu Picchu Pueblo
Upon arrival, we’ll head to the hotel, where you’ll have time to shower and rest. Around 7:00 pm, we’ll go to dinner at a local restaurant. After dinner, you’ll receive information about the following day’s visit to Machu Picchu, before heading to bed.
Important Note
During the hiking section from Hidroeléctrica to Machu Picchu Pueblo, you’ll need to carry your personal belongings, since there is no transport service along this stretch. Guided Machu Picchu Tour → Return to Cusco
Wake-up and breakfast
The last day of the 4-Day Inca Jungle Trail is dedicated to visiting the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu. The day begins with wake-up at 4:00 am, followed by breakfast at the hotel.
Options for reaching the citadel
There are two ways to reach Machu Picchu:
- On foot: starting the hike from Machu Picchu Pueblo at 4:30 am, with 30 minutes of flat walking to the Inca Bridge, followed by 1 hour of climbing stairs up to the main entrance.
- By bus: the bus departs from town at 5:30 am, with a ride of 25 minutes, at an additional cost of $12 USD.
Either way, the goal is to arrive at the main entrance of Machu Picchu by 6:00 am, or at the time indicated on your entry ticket (the standard entry time is 6:00 am, though this may vary based on availability).
Guided tour of the citadel
Once at the entrance, you’ll enter the citadel together with your guide for the guided tour, according to the circuit included on your ticket. Inside Machu Picchu, you’ll have time to enjoy the views and take photos before the guided tour begins, which lasts 1 to 2 hours, depending on the assigned circuit. Your guide will walk you through the history and architecture of Machu Picchu, with additional time for photos.
Optional hikes: Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain
After the guided tour, those who booked the additional ticket for Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain will receive instructions from their guide to complete this hike, which usually takes 3 to 3.5 hours. Those who didn’t book this additional activity will proceed with the return to Cusco.
Car return option
Those who chose the car return will need to begin the hike from Machu Picchu to Hidroeléctrica, lasting 3 hours, starting once the Machu Picchu tour ends (usually between 9:00 and 10:00 am). Upon arrival in Hidroeléctrica, you’ll have time to have lunch on your own before boarding the bus to Cusco, departing at 3:00 pm, with a ride of approximately 6 hours, arriving in Cusco between 9:00 and 10:00 pm. The tour ends at the Machu Picchu Team office in Cusco, though drop-off in Ollantaytambo is also available upon request.
Train return option
Those who chose the train return will need to descend to Machu Picchu Pueblo, either on foot or by bus. Once in town, you’ll have time to explore and have lunch on your own, before heading to the train station to board the train, usually scheduled for 2:30 pm or 2:55 pm, depending on availability, bound for Ollantaytambo (approximately 1.5 hours). In Ollantaytambo, our driver will be waiting to take you back to Cusco, in a 2-hour drive, arriving around 7:00 pm. The tour’s final stop is the Machu Picchu Team office, located very close to Cusco’s Plaza de Armas.
- Important Note
Your Machu Picchu entry time depends on the time assigned to your ticket, which will be confirmed at the time of booking your tour, along with the corresponding circuit. That said, the guided tour inside the citadel is always included, regardless of your assigned time or circuit — we have guides available for every schedule, even if you purchased your Machu Picchu ticket independently.
Day 4 – Tour Inclusions
- Breakfast at the hotel in Machu Picchu Pueblo
- Machu Picchu entrance ticket (circuit and time confirmed at the time of booking)
- Guided tour of the Machu Picchu citadel
- Car return: vehicle departs from Hidroeléctrica at 3:00 pm
- Train return: train departs from Machu Picchu Pueblo at 2:30 pm or 2:55 pm to Ollantaytambo, including transfer from Ollantaytambo to Cusco (2-hour drive)

At the Machu Picchu Team office in Cusco, located one block from the Plaza de Armas, we have a storage room where tour participants can leave their travel luggage – that is, anything you won’t be bringing along on the tour. You can leave your belongings with complete confidence, and we’ll safely store them for the entire duration of your tour. This service is completely free for anyone taking a tour with us. You can drop off your luggage the day before the tour, or on the same day it begins, since the vehicle transporting you makes a stop at our office for this purpose. Since the tour also ends at the Machu Picchu Team office, you’ll be able to pick up your belongings there without any inconvenience. Our storage room is available from 4:00 am to 10:00 pm, during which you can drop off or pick up your luggage.
Not Included
Day 4 Lunch Not Included

Entrance Ticket to the Cocalmayo Hot Springs
The entrance ticket to enjoy the Cocalmayo hot springs is not included in the tour, but it can be paid directly at the entrance checkpoint. The cost is S/10, and this activity takes place during the afternoon of the second day of the tour.
Drinking Water
Drinking water is not provided during the tour, but bottled and mineral water is readily available for purchase at local shops along the route. We recommend carrying a reusable water bottle and budgeting for at least 1 to 2 liters per day, given the physical demands of biking, rafting, and hiking, plus changes in altitude and climate throughout the tour.
Tips for Staff
Gratuities for your guide and support staff are not included and are entirely optional. While not mandatory, tips are a great way to show appreciation for exceptional service.

Once you’ve made your selections, click “Continue.”

BOOKING POLICY & TERMS AND CONDITIONS – INCA JUNGLE TRAIL 4 DAYS TO MACHU PICCHU
We believe in full transparency from the very beginning. Please read the following terms carefully before making your reservation, so you can book with complete confidence and peace of mind.
1. Booking Deposit
To confirm your reservation, a non-refundable deposit of $180 USD per person is required. This deposit is used to secure your spot on the trek and to immediately purchase your Machu Picchu entrance ticket and, when applicable, your train tickets. Once paid, this deposit is strictly non-refundable and non-transferable under any circumstances, regardless of how far in advance you cancel.
2. Payment of Remaining Balance
If you paid only the deposit at the time of booking, the remaining balance must be paid no later than 48 hours before the start of the tour. Failure to complete payment within this window may result in automatic cancellation of your reservation without any refund.
You can pay the remaining balance in the following ways:
- In person at our Cusco office, by credit card, debit card, or cash (Peruvian soles or US dollars)
- Online through our booking platform
Please note that if the balance has not been settled within the 48-hour window, our booking platform is authorized to charge the outstanding amount to the same card or account used for the initial deposit.
3. Machu Picchu & Additional Mountain Tickets
Machu Picchu entrance tickets are issued directly by the Peruvian Ministry of Culture and are strictly non-refundable, non-transferable, and non-modifiable. No date changes or name changes are permitted once tickets are issued — this is a regulation set by the Peruvian Government, not by Machu Picchu Team. The same policy applies to optional mountain tickets (Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain), which are subject to limited availability and carry an additional cost. We purchase all tickets immediately upon confirmation of your booking and send them to you by email. For this reason, these costs cannot be reimbursed under any circumstances.
Important: you may only add one mountain per date — either Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain, not both on the same day. Since the Machu Picchu visit takes place on day 4 of this itinerary, please keep this in mind when planning your additional activities for that final day.
4. Cancellation Policy
All cancellation requests must be submitted in writing to our official email address. The following penalties apply:
- Cancellation more than 48 hours before departure: loss of the $180 USD non-refundable deposit per person
- Cancellation within 48 hours of the tour start date: loss of 100% of the total amount paid, with no refund
If you paid the full tour amount and choose to cancel, you will receive a partial refund of the remaining balance after deducting the non-refundable deposit ($180 USD per person), the cost of any entrance tickets already purchased (Machu Picchu, Huayna Picchu, or Machu Picchu Mountain), and any non-refundable additional services confirmed in your booking (such as the Vistadome train upgrade). Bank processing fees are also non-refundable. If you paid only the deposit and choose to cancel, no refund will be issued.
Please note that any tickets already purchased in your name can still be used by you personally on their original date if you decide to visit Machu Picchu independently, since all tickets are issued with each participant’s name and cannot be transferred.
5. Train Tickets
When your package includes train service, tickets are subject to the policies of PeruRail or IncaRail. These tickets are non-refundable, and any date changes are subject to availability and may incur additional charges.
6. Passenger Responsibilities
You are responsible for providing accurate personal information exactly as it appears on your passport. Any errors in names, passport numbers, or other details may result in denied entry to Machu Picchu, additional costs, or loss of services — without the right to a refund. All required documents — particularly your passport and, for students, a valid university ID — must be submitted immediately after booking. Delays in sending these documents may result in unavailability of tickets, for which no refund will be provided.
7. Itinerary Changes and Force Majeure
Machu Picchu Team reserves the right to modify, suspend, or cancel any part of the itinerary due to circumstances beyond our control, including severe weather, strikes, road closures, government restrictions, or train service disruptions. In such cases, no refund or compensation is guaranteed, though we will always make every effort to offer a suitable alternative. Given that this itinerary spans 4 full days and includes physically demanding outdoor activities (biking, rafting, zip-lining, and trekking across varied terrain and altitudes), weather-related adjustments are more likely than on shorter tours. We will always prioritize your safety when making any last-minute changes.
8. Risk Assumption
By booking this tour, you voluntarily acknowledge that this adventure — which includes mountain biking, white-water rafting, zip-lining, and high-altitude trekking — involves inherent risks, including altitude sickness, sudden weather changes, physical exhaustion, and limited access to immediate medical services. Machu Picchu Team limits its liability except in cases of proven negligence or willful misconduct on our part.
9. Travel Insurance
We strongly recommend purchasing comprehensive travel insurance before your trip, covering medical emergencies, evacuation, cancellations, lost luggage, and repatriation. Given the variety of adventure activities included in this 4-day tour, we especially recommend confirming that your policy covers adventure sports such as biking, rafting, and zip-lining. This is best arranged in your home country before traveling to Peru.
10. Passenger Conduct
All participants are expected to behave respectfully toward fellow travelers, staff, and the natural and cultural heritage along the route. Machu Picchu Team reserves the right to remove any participant whose conduct endangers the group, staff, or the environment. In such cases, no refund will be issued for any amount paid.
11. Claims and Complaints
Any complaints or claims must be raised during the tour itself or within a maximum of 3 calendar days after its completion. After this period, the service will be considered accepted as satisfactory.
12. Legal Jurisdiction

We Include the Three Main Adventure Activities
Our 4-day Inca Jungle Trail includes the three most popular adventure activities along the route:
- Mountain Biking: Begin the adventure with an exciting downhill mountain biking experience from Abra Málaga, located at approximately 4,316 meters above sea level, toward the warmer valleys near Huamanmarca. The biking route covers approximately 55 to 60 kilometers and takes around 3 to 4 hours, depending on the pace of the group and weather conditions. You will descend through constantly changing landscapes, from high Andean mountains and misty cloud forests to lush tropical valleys.
- Whitewater Rafting: Enjoy an exciting rafting experience on the Urubamba River, navigating approximately Class II and Class III rapids. The activity usually lasts around 1.5 hours and is led by professional rafting guides. Before entering the river, you will receive a complete safety briefing and practical instructions. Rafting is subject to weather conditions and the river’s water level. Safety is always our highest priority.
- Zipline Adventure: Experience our zipline circuit in the Lucmabamba or Santa Teresa area, surrounded by beautiful tropical scenery. The activity includes several different zipline cables and a Tibetan-style bridge, giving you the opportunity to fly above the valley and enjoy spectacular views from a completely different perspective. All required safety equipment is included for mountain biking, rafting, and ziplining.
