The Rainbow Mountain ATV Tour from Cusco begins with an early-morning pick-up from your hotel or accommodation in Cusco between 3:30 AM and 4:00 AM. The exact pick-up time will be confirmed one day before the tour. Once the group is ready, we will travel south from Cusco in comfortable tourist transportation. The early departure allows us to reach the mountain area before the busiest visiting hours and enjoy the scenery under better morning conditions.

Breakfast Stop

After approximately 1.5 hours of travel, we will stop at a local restaurant for breakfast. You will have time to enjoy a warm meal, use the restrooms, and prepare for the high-altitude adventure ahead. After breakfast, we will continue toward the community of Japura, the starting point of the ATV activity.

5:00–7:30 AM: Transfer to Japura and ATV Safety Briefing

The drive from the breakfast location to Japura takes approximately one hour, depending on road and weather conditions. Upon arrival, the guide will explain the complete itinerary, ATV driving procedures, safety rules, and correct use of the equipment. Each participant will receive a helmet and take part in a short practice session before beginning the route. No previous ATV experience is required, but all travelers must follow the guide’s instructions throughout the activity.

ATV Ride toward Rainbow Mountain

Once the group is prepared, we will begin the ATV adventure through the high Andean landscape. The route passes through wide valleys, rural mountain trails, traditional communities, and grazing areas where it is common to see llamas, alpacas, and other Andean wildlife. The ATV ride takes approximately one hour, although the duration may vary depending on trail conditions and the pace of the group.

At the end of the route, we will park the ATVs in the authorized parking area and prepare for the final section toward the Rainbow Mountain viewpoint.

7:30–9:30 AM: Final Walk to Rainbow Mountain

From the ATV parking area, travelers must complete a final uphill walk of approximately 35 to 45 minutes to reach the main Rainbow Mountain viewpoint. The hike is short compared with the traditional route, but it takes place at high altitude and should be completed slowly. The guide will accompany the group and provide assistance along the way.

Travelers who prefer not to walk may be able to rent a horse or another locally operated transport service directly from community providers. This service is optional, subject to availability, and must be paid separately in cash. The approximate price is 100 Peruvian soles, although local providers may change their rates without prior notice.

Guided Visit at Rainbow Mountain

Upon reaching Rainbow Mountain, also known as Vinicunca or Vinicunka, you will have time to enjoy the panoramic views, take photographs, record videos, and appreciate the mountain’s distinctive natural colors. Your guide will explain the geological formation of the mountain, the surrounding high-Andean environment, and the cultural importance of the area.

The amount of time spent at the viewpoint may vary depending on weather, visibility, visitor flow, and the pace of the group.

Return to the ATV Parking Area and Japura

After visiting the viewpoint, we will walk back to the ATV parking area. We will then begin the return ride along the same mountain route toward Japura. Upon arrival at the ATV base, participants will return their vehicles and safety equipment before boarding the tourist transportation.

10:30 AM–5:00 PM: Buffet Lunch and Return to Cusco

After completing the ATV activity, we will travel to a local restaurant for a buffet lunch. The meal provides a well-deserved opportunity to rest and recover after the morning adventure. Following lunch, we will begin the return journey to Cusco. Arrival is expected at approximately 4:00 PM, although the exact time may vary because of traffic, weather, road conditions, and the pace of the group.

The tour ends near Plaza Regocijo, in Cusco’s historic center.
