Cusco Office Pick-Up → Ollantaytambo → Hidroelectrica → Hike to Machu Picchu Pueblo
6:30 AM: Meeting at the Machu Picchu Team Office
The Machu Picchu Tour By Car 2 Days from Cusco begins at approximately 6:30 AM at the Machu Picchu Team office in central Cusco. Before departure, our staff will confirm the passenger list, review the day’s schedule, and provide the final travel instructions. The office is located at Portal Nuevo 270, Plaza Regocijo, one block from the Plaza de Armas. Travelers should arrive on time with a small backpack containing the essentials needed for the two-day journey.
Scenic Drive from Cusco to Hidroelectrica
Once the group is ready, we will begin the overland journey from Cusco to Hidroelectrica. The drive takes approximately 5 to 6 hours, depending on traffic, road conditions, weather, and the pace of the group.
Along the route, you will travel through changing Andean landscapes, mountain valleys, cloud forest, agricultural areas, and tropical zones. The journey generally passes through the Ollantaytambo area before continuing toward the Abra Málaga route and the lower valleys near Santa María and Santa Teresa. Short stops may be made during the journey for restrooms, refreshments, or scenic views, depending on operational conditions.
Lunch in Hidroelectrica
Upon arrival in Hidroelectrica, you will enjoy an included lunch at a local restaurant. This is the main meal before beginning the walk to Machu Picchu Pueblo. After lunch, the guide or tour representative will explain the walking route, meeting arrangements, safety recommendations, and approximate arrival time in Aguas Calientes.
Hike from Hidroelectrica to Machu Picchu Pueblo
The adventure continues with an approximately 11-kilometer walk from Hidroeléctrica to Machu Picchu Pueblo, also known as Aguas Calientes. The route takes approximately 3 to 3.5 hours and follows mostly flat terrain beside the railway line, passing through lush tropical scenery. Along the way, you’ll walk alongside the Vilcanota River, pass through forested areas, and enjoy views of the mountains surrounding Machu Picchu.
This section of the trek is not guided, meaning you’ll walk independently along a marked trail that runs beside the railway track. This is a well-established route used daily by travelers making the same journey, so you’ll be walking alongside many other hikers along the way. Although the route is not technically difficult, travelers should wear comfortable walking shoes, carry sufficient water, and be prepared for warm, humid, windy, or rainy conditions.
Arrival in Machu Picchu Pueblo
Upon arriving in Aguas Calientes, head to the main square, where a hotel representative or member of our team will be waiting to greet you. Aguas Calientes is a very small town, so everything is close together and easy to find. Alternatively, if you prefer, you can go directly to your hotel — we’ll provide you with the exact address once your reservation is confirmed. Once settled in, you’ll have time to check in, shower, relax, and get ready for your visit to Machu Picchu the following day.
Dinner and Evening Briefing
Dinner at a local restaurant in Machu Picchu Pueblo is included. Before or after dinner, your guide will provide a briefing for Day 2. The meeting will include the Machu Picchu entrance time, bus or walking options, assigned circuit, meeting point, required documents, and return instructions. After the briefing, you will have the rest of the evening free to relax or explore the town.

Early Breakfast at the Hotel
Your second day begins with an early breakfast at the hotel in Machu Picchu Pueblo. The exact breakfast time will depend on your confirmed Machu Picchu entrance schedule and whether you choose to reach the archaeological site by bus or on foot.
Before leaving the hotel, make sure you are carrying your original passport, Machu Picchu entrance ticket, water, sunscreen, rain protection, and any personal items required for the day.
Walk or Bus to Machu Picchu
You may choose between two options to reach the main entrance of Machu Picchu:
- Option 1: Walk to Machu Picchu
Travelers who prefer to walk should leave Machu Picchu Pueblo at approximately 4:30 AM. The uphill route covers around 4 kilometers and generally takes 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on fitness level and walking pace. The route includes a long series of stone steps and requires moderate physical effort. A headlamp, comfortable hiking shoes, water, and rain protection are strongly recommended.
- Option 2: Bus to Machu Picchu
Travelers who prefer a more comfortable option may take the official bus from Machu Picchu Pueblo to the archaeological site. The journey takes approximately 25 to 30 minutes. The bus ticket is not included and must be purchased separately in Aguas Calientes. The approximate cost is USD 12 per person each way, subject to change.
Meeting with Your Guide at Machu Picchu
Regardless of the transportation option selected, the meeting point will be at the main entrance of Machu Picchu at the time confirmed during the briefing, generally around 6:00 AM. Your guide will assist with the entrance process and lead the group through the official circuit assigned to your reservation.
Guided Tour of Machu Picchu
Your Machu Picchu entrance ticket and professional guided tour are included. The guided visit generally lasts approximately 2 to 2.5 hours, depending on the assigned circuit, visitor flow, and current regulations. During the tour, your guide will explain the history, architecture, engineering, religious importance, and cultural significance of the Inca citadel.
Depending on the circuit included in your ticket, you may visit or observe agricultural terraces, temples, ceremonial areas, residential sectors, water channels, stone structures, and panoramic viewpoints. Time for photographs is included along the authorized route. Visitors must follow the official one-way circuit and the instructions of the guide and archaeological-site staff.
Return from Machu Picchu to Machu Picchu Pueblo
After completing the guided visit, you must return to Machu Picchu Pueblo either on foot or by bus. Travelers returning on foot should allow approximately 1.5 to 2 hours for the descent. Those taking the bus must purchase the return ticket separately. Because the return vehicle departs from Hidroelectrica at a fixed time, it is essential to leave Machu Picchu promptly and follow the schedule provided by the guide.
Hike from Machu Picchu Pueblo to Hidroelectrica
From Machu Picchu Pueblo, you will begin the approximately 11-kilometer walk back to Hidroelectrica. The route follows mostly flat terrain beside the railway line and takes approximately 3 to 3.5 hours. Along the way, you will pass through tropical vegetation, forested sections, and landscapes beside the Vilcanota River. We recommend carrying enough water, wearing comfortable shoes with good grip, and protecting yourself from the sun and rain.
Arrival and Boarding at Hidroelectrica
You should arrive at Hidroelectrica by approximately 2:30 PM to check in and board the return vehicle. The scheduled departure is around 3:00 PM. Travelers who arrive late risk missing the transportation, so it is important to maintain the recommended walking pace and follow all instructions provided by the guide.
Return Journey to Cusco
The drive from Hidroelectrica to Cusco takes approximately 6 to 7 hours, depending on traffic, weather, road conditions, and operational circumstances. During the journey, you can rest and enjoy the changing landscapes as the vehicle travels from the tropical valleys back toward the Andes and Cusco.
Arrival in Cusco is generally expected between 9:00 PM and 10:00 PM. The tour concludes near Plaza Regocijo, one block from the Plaza de Armas, or at another previously confirmed central drop-off point.

Step 2: Select the Number and Type of Travelers
Enter the total number of participants and select the correct category for each traveler: adult, eligible student, child, or Andean Community citizen when applicable. Travelers requesting the student price must meet the official requirements and submit a clear photograph of both sides of a valid university student card. Complete the booking form with accurate information for every participant, including the full name exactly as shown on the passport, passport number, nationality, date of birth, WhatsApp number with country code, email address, hotel in Cusco, dietary requirements, relevant medical conditions, and emergency contact information. Step 4: Select Optional Services
Depending on availability, you may add Huayna Picchu Mountain, Machu Picchu Mountain, a hotel-category upgrade, round-trip bus tickets between Machu Picchu Pueblo and Machu Picchu, private transportation, or other optional services. Deposit and Booking Confirmation
A USD 70 non-refundable deposit per person is required to begin the reservation process. This payment is mainly used to purchase the official Machu Picchu entrance ticket and confirm the essential services included in the tour. Your reservation is fully confirmed only after the payment has been received, all services have been verified, and our reservations team has issued the final written confirmation.
Cancellations and Refunds
The USD 70 deposit per person is non-refundable because it is used to purchase non-refundable entrance tickets and organize confirmed services. Travelers who paid the full tour price may receive a refund of the recoverable balance after deducting the deposit, tickets, hotel costs, transportation, meals, optional services, processing fees, bank charges, currency-conversion expenses, and any other non-recoverable costs.
Date Changes
Date changes are subject to the availability of Machu Picchu entrance tickets, hotel rooms, transportation, professional guides, and optional services. Since an issued Machu Picchu ticket generally cannot be modified or refunded, a new USD 70 deposit per person will be required for the new date. Any price difference, hotel penalty, transportation charge, or additional service cost must also be paid by the traveler.
Names and Passport Information
The full name entered during booking must match the traveler’s passport exactly. Name changes and transfers to another traveler are generally not permitted. Remaining Balance
Travelers who pay only the deposit must complete the remaining balance at least 24 hours before departure. Payment may be completed online, in person at our Cusco office, in cash in US dollars or Peruvian soles, or by debit or credit card with the applicable processing fee. Failure to pay within the established period may result in the suspension or cancellation of services that have not yet been confirmed.
