Cusco → Ollantaytambo → Km 104 → Wiñay Wayna → Sun Gate → Aguas Calientes
Your Inca Trail 2 Days starts with hotel pickup in Cusco between 3:45 and 4:15 AM (around 5:00 AM from the Sacred Valley). We drive about 1 hour 45 minutes to the Ollantaytambo train station.
The train leaves around 6:10 or 6:40 AM to Km 104, the start of the trail. After visiting Chachabamba, we climb about 3 hours on original Inca paths to Wiñay Wayna (2,700 m), where we have a packed lunch (cooking is not allowed on this trail).
About 2 more hours of mostly flat walking take us to Inti Punku, the Sun Gate, for your first view of Machu Picchu. We descend 45 minutes to the upper terraces for the classic photos and an introduction by your guide.
A 30-minute bus takes you down to Aguas Calientes. Check in at your hotel and enjoy dinner at a local restaurant around 7:00 PM.
Good to know: The weather is warm and humid. Bring sunscreen, insect repellent and 1.5–2 liters of water.
