TRIP ITINERARY
ARRIVAL IN CUSCO → AIRPORT PICK-UP → ACCLIMATIZATION
Your Machu Picchu Express journey begins upon arrival in Cusco, located at approximately 3,400 meters / 11,150 feet above sea level.
Our team will meet you at the airport and provide a private transfer to your hotel in Cusco. After check-in, the remainder of the day is intentionally kept free so you can rest and gradually adapt to the altitude before beginning the main activities of the tour.
Many hotels in Cusco offer coca tea as a traditional local drink commonly associated with altitude acclimatization. Guests with medical conditions or concerns should follow their doctor’s recommendations.
During the afternoon, you may choose to relax at the hotel or take a gentle walk through the Historic Center of Cusco, allowing you to begin discovering the city at your own pace while avoiding unnecessary physical exertion on your first day.
For travelers interested in an additional cultural experience, an optional evening visit to the Centro Qosqo de Arte Nativo may be arranged, where traditional Andean music and dance performances provide an introduction to the region’s cultural heritage.
At the end of the day, return to your hotel and rest in preparation for the following day’s activities.

After breakfast, your Machu Picchu Express journey continues with a full-day exploration of the Sacred Valley of the Incas, one of the most important cultural and agricultural regions of the Cusco area.
Leaving Cusco, we descend toward the Sacred Valley and make our first scenic stop at the Taray Viewpoint, where you can enjoy panoramic views of the valley, surrounding mountains, traditional farmland, and the winding Vilcanota–Urubamba River.
We then continue to the Pisac Archaeological Site, located high above the modern town. Here, you will explore impressive agricultural terraces, ceremonial sectors, stone structures, and viewpoints that demonstrate the advanced engineering and planning of the Inca civilization.
After visiting the archaeological complex, we descend to the town of Pisac, where there will be time to visit a local artisan workshop and learn more about traditional Andean craftsmanship and its connection to regional culture.
The journey then continues through the Sacred Valley to Urubamba, where we will stop for lunch and enjoy some time to relax before continuing with the afternoon program.
After lunch, we travel to Ollantaytambo, one of the best-preserved Inca towns in Peru. Its original stone streets, traditional houses, and ancient water channels remain part of daily life today.
Your guided visit includes the impressive Ollantaytambo archaeological complex, where massive stone terraces and ceremonial structures rise above the town. From the upper sectors, you can also enjoy excellent views across the Sacred Valley.
In the late afternoon, we transfer to the Ollantaytambo train station and board the train to Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Pueblo).
The train follows the Urubamba River as the landscape gradually changes from the high Andean valley to the lush vegetation of the cloud forest surrounding Machu Picchu.
Upon arrival in Aguas Calientes, our team will meet you at the train station and accompany you to your hotel. The evening is free to rest, explore the town, or prepare for your visit to Machu Picchu the following day.

How to Book
Faqs and Travel Guide
Frequently Asked Questions MACHU PICCHU EXPRESS
Best time of year for this itinerary?
The dry season from May to October offers stable conditions with little rain, making it ideal for boat rides on Lake Titicaca and walks at Machu Picchu. Daytime temperatures average between 10 and 20 degrees Celsius, with colder nights. This period avoids muddy valley paths and provides clearer lake views. Crowds are higher, so booking in advance is recommended. Wet months bring lush green scenery but may cause delays.
How to handle altitude adjustments?
Altitudes exceed 3,800 meters in places like Puno and mountain passes, which can lead to headaches or fatigue. Drink plenty of water, rest upon arrival in Cusco, and eat light meals. Coca leaf tea helps many travelers with mild symptoms. Medications should only be taken with a doctor’s approval. Gradual acclimatization with easy activities on day 1 is advised. Hotels provide oxygen if symptoms continue.
Is the tour appropriate for families?
Children over 8 years old can join if they are active, though boat rides and walks require energy. Guides adjust the pace for families, and attractions like the floating islands are especially engaging for children. Parents should monitor altitude effects closely. Family rooms are available in hotels. The blend of history and culture is both educational and entertaining.
What currency to carry?
Peruvian soles are best for markets and tips, while US dollars are accepted in hotels. Carry small denominations for easier payments. Credit cards work in urban areas, and ATMs in Cusco and Puno dispense both currencies. Check exchange rates before changing money. Guides prefer tips in soles.
Are vegetarian dishes offered?
Buffets include vegetarian options made with Andean vegetables and grains such as quinoa. Advance notice allows for meal adjustments. International vegetarian dishes like salads may be available at an extra cost. Local organic ingredients ensure freshness. Guides can recommend vegetarian-friendly restaurants during free time.
How much physical activity daily?
Day 1 includes light walking of about 3 kilometers at sightseeing areas. Days 2 and 3 involve moderate walking up to 5 kilometers, sometimes with steps. Day 4 is mainly seated travel. Day 5 includes approximately 40 minutes of walking on the islands. Comfortable footwear is recommended, and guides adjust the pace for the group.
What if cancellation needed?
Cancellations made 30 days in advance receive a full refund minus processing fees. Between 15 and 29 days, a 50 percent refund applies. No refund is available for cancellations within 15 days. Date changes depend on availability. Travel insurance is recommended for unexpected situations. Contact MACHU PICCHU RESERVATIONS promptly for assistance.
Wi-Fi availability on the route?
Hotels in Cusco, Aguas Calientes, and Puno offer Wi-Fi, though speeds may be slower at high altitudes. Trains and boats have limited connectivity. There is no signal during some road or lake segments. Download important information offline. Internet access is best for brief communications.
Languages spoken by guides?
Guides primarily speak English and Spanish and can adapt explanations for mixed-language groups. Other languages, such as Portuguese, may be available with advance notice depending on staff availability. This ensures clear understanding of site details.
Safety for solo participants?
Group travel provides good security in Cusco and Puno regions. Follow guide instructions and keep belongings secure in crowded areas. Agency-provided transportation adds reliability. Solo travelers usually integrate easily with the group.
What animals visible?
Llamas and alpacas are commonly seen in valleys and highland areas. Birds are often visible around the lake. Guides explain the ecological importance of these species in the Andes. Observe wildlife from a respectful distance.
Vaccinations required?
Routine vaccinations such as tetanus should be up to date. Hepatitis A is recommended due to food exposure. There are no specific vaccination requirements related to altitude. Consult a travel clinic 4 to 6 weeks before departure.
Typical group numbers?
Groups usually consist of 8 to 12 participants, allowing for personalized attention and interaction. Smaller private options are available. Tours fill quickly during peak seasons.
Can extend the stay?
Additional nights can be arranged through the agency at the same hotels included in the package. This allows time to explore more attractions, such as markets in Puno. Rates remain consistent with the tour package.
Procedure for poor weather?
Tours continue as planned when conditions are safe. Boat routes may be adjusted if lake conditions are rough. Guides assess weather situations continuously. Partial refunds may apply if certain segments must be skipped for safety reasons.
