SALKANTAY ZIPLINE – ADVENTURE IN LUCMABAMBA

Experience one of the most exciting activities along the Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu. Located in Lucmabamba, Santa Teresa, Salkantay Zipline combines adrenaline, spectacular Andean landscapes, and an ideal location along the trekking route. Surrounded by mountains, subtropical vegetation, coffee plantations, and the river valley, this adventure is designed to complement your Salkantay Trek without significantly changing your regular itinerary.

Location of the Salkantay Zipline

Salkantay Zipline is located in Lucmabamba, in the district of Santa Teresa, Cusco, Peru, an area visited by travelers following the Salkantay route toward Machu Picchu. Lucmabamba is known for its beautiful natural surroundings, warm climate, coffee plantations, and strategic location between the high Andes and the tropical valleys leading toward Machu Picchu. The zipline facility is located close to the trekking route, making it easy to incorporate the activity into your Salkantay adventure.

Perfect Addition to the Salkantay Trek

Salkantay Zipline has been designed especially for travelers looking to add an extra adventure while trekking toward Machu Picchu. Depending on the Salkantay itinerary you have selected, you will normally reach the Lucmabamba area around midday, where groups may stop for lunch, rest, or stay overnight. The zipline can generally be completed before or after lunch, depending on your group’s schedule and the instructions of your guide. Because the activity takes approximately 1.5 hours, it can be conveniently incorporated into the itinerary without taking an entire day away from your trek. It is the perfect opportunity to exchange your hiking boots for a harness and experience the Salkantay Valley from an entirely different perspective.

The Adventure – What to Expect

The complete Salkantay Zipline experience takes approximately 1.5 hours and combines a series of long zipline cables with an exciting Tibetan-style suspension bridge.

5 Zipline Cables

The circuit features five zipline cables of different lengths, heights, and perspectives. Each section offers a different experience as you travel above the valley surrounded by spectacular Andean scenery. The longest cable extends for approximately 1 kilometer (0.62 miles), providing one of the most exciting sections of the circuit. The shortest cable is approximately 700 meters (0.43 miles), while the remaining lines range from approximately 800 to 900 meters (0.50–0.56 miles). Together, the five cables provide a combination of speed, height, panoramic scenery, and adventure.

Tibetan Suspension Bridge

The experience also includes an impressive Tibetan-style suspension bridge approximately 300 meters (984 feet) long. Crossing the bridge adds a completely different challenge to the circuit. Suspended high above the surrounding terrain, it provides impressive views of the valley and mountains while testing your balance and confidence. The combination of the five zipline cables and Tibetan bridge creates a complete adventure experience rather than a single zipline ride.

Safety and Equipment

Safety is an essential part of the Salkantay Zipline experience. Before beginning the circuit, every participant receives a safety briefing and instructions explaining how the activity works. Participants are provided with the necessary safety equipment, including a harness, helmet, carabiners, pulleys, and other equipment required for the circuit. Professional staff assist participants throughout the experience, from preparing the equipment to completing each section of the zipline course. The objective is simple: you focus on enjoying the adventure while our team focuses on helping you complete the circuit safely and comfortably.

Why Add the Zipline to Your Salkantay Trek?

After several hours or days of trekking through the Andes, the zipline offers a completely different way to experience the landscape. Instead of viewing the mountains only from the trail, you will have the opportunity to fly across the valley, cross a suspension bridge, and experience the natural surroundings from above. It is particularly recommended for travelers looking to combine trekking, nature, adventure, and adrenaline during their journey to Machu Picchu. Photos and videos can also provide a memorable record of one of the most exciting moments of your Salkantay adventure.
