TRIP ITINERARY

DAY 01:

CUSCO – CLOUD FOREST – PAUCARTAMBO – PILCOPATA

We begin our journey early in the morning with pick-up from your hotel between 5:30 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. in our comfortable private bus. On the way, we will visit the Chullpas of Ninamarca, ancient funerary towers located at 3,750 meters above sea level. We then make a short stop in the folkloric town of Paucartambo, known for its colonial bridge and rich cultural traditions. The journey continues to Acjanaco Pass (4,000 m.a.s.l.), the official gateway to the Manu National Park. From here, we descend into the enchanting cloud forest, home to an abundance of wildlife, including orchids, heliconias, and ancient ferns. We’ll take a walk through the forest to observe the stunning Andean Cock-of-the-Rock (Rupicola peruviana) performing its mating dance. With some luck, we may also spot quetzals, trogons, and possibly the elusive spectacled bear (Tremarctos ornatus). In the afternoon, we arrive in the town of Pilcopata (550 m.a.s.l.), where we will stay in a typical jungle lodge located outside the village. The lodge offers private rooms, bathrooms, and hot showers, providing a comfortable place to spend the night surrounded by nature.

After a delicious breakfast, we continue by bus for approximately 45 minutes to the port of Atalaya (490 m / 1,607 ft), where we board a motorized boat for a scenic 30-minute ride along the river to our accommodation at Paititi Lodge, a charming jungle lodge surrounded by the lush Amazon rainforest and equipped with private bathrooms and hot showers for your comfort. During the boat journey, you may spot a wide variety of Amazon wildlife, including colorful birds, monkeys, and other fascinating species.

After enjoying a traditional Amazonian lunch, we head to the beautiful Machuwasi Lake, where we explore on a handmade catamaran in search of some of the jungle’s most iconic animals, such as the Hoatzin, monkeys, reptiles, dwarf caimans, insects, and even capybaras, the largest rodents in the world. As night falls, you will also have the opportunity to join an optional night walk in the Amazon rainforest, a unique experience to discover nocturnal wildlife and the mysterious sounds of the jungle after dark. Overnight stay at Paititi Lodge, with all basic comforts, including private bathrooms and showers.

Very early in the morning, we board our motorized boat to visit a clay lick for green parrots, a natural mineral-rich clay wall where you can observe three to four species of parrots gathering in a colorful and lively spectacle. After this experience, we return by boat and continue with a walk through the primary forest, going deeper into the jungle until we reach the private lagoon known as Cocha Maravilla. From an observation platform, you will have the opportunity to spot a great variety of birds, monkeys, small reptiles, dwarf caimans, and insects in their natural habitat.**

In the afternoon, we return to the lodge to enjoy a traditional lunch, and at night you may join an optional night walk to discover the fascinating wildlife that becomes active after dark. Overnight stay at the lodge, which offers private bathrooms and showers for a comfortable stay in the heart of the Amazon rainforest.

After enjoying one last delicious breakfast in the heart of the jungle, we begin our return journey by motorized boat from Paititi Lodge to the port of Atalaya, where our private bus will be waiting for us. From there, we continue back to the city of Cusco, once again passing through the mysterious and beautiful cloud forest, a region full of lush vegetation, dramatic mountain scenery, and incredible biodiversity. Along the way, you will have a final chance to admire the breathtaking landscapes of the Manu region, bringing this unforgettable Amazon adventure to a perfect close.

We expect to arrive in Cusco between 6:30 and 7:00 PM, depending on road and weather conditions. This marks the end of an extraordinary journey through the Peruvian Amazon, filled with wildlife, nature, and unique experiences that will stay with you long after the tour is over.
