TRIP ITINERARY

DAY 01:

CUSCO, EXPLORATION OF HUMANTAY LAKE AND CAMPING AT QUISWARNIYOC

Your adventure begins in Cusco, with hotel pickups between 4:30 and 5:00 AM. After a 2-hour drive to Mollepata, you’ll have breakfast and time for last-minute purchases. The journey continues for another hour to Soraypampa, where you’ll meet the muleteers and begin the hike.

The day’s main hike is a 2-hour trek to Humantay Lagoon (from 3,900 to 4,200 meters), followed by time to relax and enjoy the views. Afterward, you descend to Quiswarniyoc campsite, arriving around 2:00 PM for lunch and rest.

The afternoon is free to explore the area and enjoy the views of the Salkantay mountain. Dinner is served at 6:00 PM, followed by a briefing for Day 2.

🗓️ Day 1 Overview

  • Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
  • Accommodation: Mountain Sky Hut
  • Difficulty: Moderate
  • Hiking Distance: 10 km (6 miles)
  • Trekking Time: 5–6 hours
  • Campsite Elevation: 4,000 m

  • Note: This day is ideal for acclimatization in preparation for the most challenging day—Day 2.

Your day starts early at 5:00 AM with a warm coca tea to help with altitude adjustment, followed by breakfast at 5:30 AM. The trek begins around 6:00 AM, heading toward the Salkantay Pass at 4,700 meters, the highest point of the route. The 3 to 3.5-hour uphill hike includes regular breaks for rest and acclimatization.

At the summit, you’ll enjoy panoramic views of the Andes and may participate in a traditional ritual to honor the Apus, the mountain spirits. After spending about 30–45 minutes at the top, the descent begins with a 2-hour hike to Wayracmachay, where a well-earned lunch awaits.

In the afternoon, the trek continues with a 2.5 to 3-hour descent through changing landscapes, transitioning from highland to the edge of the Amazon. The day ends at the Chawllay campsite (2,900 meters), where dinner is served and you’ll rest in your mountain hut.
