EXCELLENT Based on 1782 reviews Posted on Google Hafsah AkhtarTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We did the 3 day 2 night inca jungle trek. It was really fun but unfortunately the first two days were very wet and there wasn’t much opportunity to dry our wet clothes until we reached aguas calientes so I would recommend bringing a waterproof jacket and pants if there’s a chance of rain. We got lucky on the day that we visited Machu Picchu as it was sunny with clear skies and we had a great view of the citadel! Jose was our guide and did his best to ensure that we were happy and comfortable the whole time. He was a great guide and provided lots of fun and good vibes. Really thankful that we had him as he was super kind and very accommodating!Posted on Google Hafsah AkhtarTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Contact UsThe best time to hike the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu is during the dry season, from May to September. During these months, the weather is usually more stable, with clearer skies and less rain, making the trail safer and the mountain views more spectacular. However, this is also the most popular time of year, so Inca Trail permits often sell out several months in advance.
The Inca Trail trek is considered moderately challenging to difficult, depending on your fitness level and acclimatization. The trail includes steep ascents and descents, uneven stone steps, and high-altitude sections. The highest point of the route is Warmiwañusca Pass (Dead Woman’s Pass) at 4,215 meters / 13,780 feet. For this reason, we strongly recommend spending at least 2 days in Cusco before starting the trek to adapt to the altitude.
Yes, an official Inca Trail permit is mandatory. The Peruvian government strictly controls access to the trail and only allows a limited number of people per day in order to protect this historic route. These permits are required for all travelers and must be arranged through an authorized Inca Trail tour operator.
Only 500 permits per day are issued for the Inca Trail by the Peruvian government. This total includes not only travelers, but also guides, porters, and cooks, which means the number of spaces available for tourists is much lower. That is why permits can sell out months in advance, especially during the peak season.
The most popular version is the Classic Inca Trail 4 Days / 3 Nights, which starts at Km 82 and ends with your arrival at Machu Picchu on the morning of the fourth day. This route offers the full experience of the Inca Trail, including mountain passes, cloud forest, archaeological sites, and the famous arrival through the Sun Gate.
No, it is not possible to hike the Inca Trail without a guide. Peruvian regulations require all visitors to enter the trail with a licensed guide through an authorized tour company. For the 4-day trek, most tours also include porters and cooks to support the experience and logistics along the route.
Yes, a good level of physical condition is recommended for the Inca Trail. You do not need to be a professional athlete, but you should be prepared for several hours of hiking each day, steep climbs, and high-altitude conditions. Doing some preparation before your trip, such as walking, hiking, or cardio training, can help you enjoy the trek much more.
The highest point of the Classic Inca Trail is Warmiwañusca Pass, also called Dead Woman’s Pass, at 4,215 meters / 13,780 feet above sea level. Reaching this point is one of the most challenging but also most rewarding moments of the trek, thanks to its breathtaking panoramic views of the Andes.
You should book the Inca Trail in advance because permits are limited and demand is very high throughout the year. If you plan to travel during the dry season or high season, it is best to reserve several months ahead to secure your preferred date.
The Inca Trail to Machu Picchu is one of the most famous treks in the world because it combines adventure, history, culture, and natural beauty in one unforgettable experience. Along the route, you will hike ancient stone paths, cross mountain passes, explore impressive Inca archaeological sites, walk through cloud forest, and arrive at Machu Picchu through the legendary Sun Gate, just as the Incas once did.
