TRIP ITINERARY
Cusco Hotel Pick-Up → Paucartambo → Abra Ajanacu → Cloud Forest → Overnight Stay in Pilcopata
Your Amazon Tour Manu Cultural Zone 3 Days begins with hotel pick-up in Cusco between 5:30 AM and 6:00 AM. Once the group is ready, we will leave the city in comfortable private transportation and begin the scenic journey from the Andean highlands toward the Manu rainforest.
Visit to the Ninamarca Chullpas
Our first stop will be the Ninamarca Chullpas, located at approximately 3,750 meters above sea level. These ancient funerary towers were built by pre-Inca cultures and provide an interesting introduction to the history and ancestral traditions of the region.
Your guide will explain the significance of the site while you enjoy views of the surrounding mountains and valleys.
Stop in Paucartambo
We will continue to Paucartambo, a traditional Andean town known for its colonial architecture, colorful celebrations, narrow streets, and historic stone bridge.
During a short visit, you will learn about the town’s cultural importance and its role as one of the main gateways between the Andes and the Amazon basin.
Abra Acjanaco – Entrance to Manu
The journey continues to Abra Acjanaco, situated at approximately 4,000 meters above sea level. This mountain pass marks the entrance to the Manu region and offers impressive views of the transition between the high Andes and the cloud forest.
From this point, we will begin a gradual descent into warmer and more humid landscapes.
Wildlife Observation in the Cloud Forest
As we enter the cloud forest, the scenery changes dramatically. Mist-covered mountains, waterfalls, orchids, heliconias, bromeliads, giant ferns, and dense vegetation create one of the most beautiful ecosystems along the route.
We will make several stops and take short guided walks to search for wildlife. One of the main highlights is the opportunity to observe the Andean Cock-of-the-Rock, Peru’s national bird, at a traditional display area.
Depending on weather conditions and animal activity, we may also see quetzals, trogons, tanagers, hummingbirds, monkeys, butterflies, and other tropical species. With exceptional luck, it may also be possible to observe the elusive spectacled bear.
Wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed because all animals live freely in their natural habitat.
Arrival in Pilcopata
In the late afternoon, we will arrive in Pilcopata, located at approximately 550 meters above sea level.
You will settle into a simple and comfortable jungle lodge situated outside the village and surrounded by tropical vegetation. The lodge provides private rooms, private bathrooms, and hot showers.
After checking in, you will enjoy dinner and receive information from your guide about the activities planned for the following day.

NIGHT 1: PILCOPATA: Spend the first night in a comfortable jungle lodge surrounded by the vegetation, sounds, and atmosphere of the Manu rainforest.
Pilcopata → Puerto Atalaya → Paititi Lodge → Machuwasi Lake
After breakfast at the lodge in Pilcopata, we will continue by private transportation for approximately 45 minutes to Puerto Atalaya, located at around 490 meters above sea level.
Upon arrival, we will board a motorized boat and travel for approximately 30 minutes along the Alto Madre de Dios River toward Paititi Lodge. During the journey, you can enjoy views of the rainforest, riverbanks, and surrounding mountains while looking for tropical birds, monkeys, butterflies, and other wildlife.
Arrival at Paititi Jungle Lodge
Once we arrive at Paititi Lodge, you will have time to settle into your private room and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the rainforest.
The lodge is surrounded by tropical vegetation and offers simple but comfortable accommodation with private bathrooms and showers. After check-in, you will enjoy a freshly prepared lunch before beginning the afternoon activity.
Machuwasi Lake Excursion
In the afternoon, we will visit Machuwasi Lake, one of the most interesting wildlife-observation areas in the Manu Cultural Zone.
At the lake, we will board a traditional handmade catamaran and move slowly across the calm waters. This quiet form of transportation allows us to observe the surroundings without disturbing the wildlife.
Depending on the season, weather, and natural animal activity, we may see:

Your guide will explain the behavior, habitat, and importance of the different species found around the lake.
Optional Night Walk
After dinner, travelers may join an optional guided night walk near the lodge.
During this activity, your guide will help you search for nocturnal species such as frogs, insects, spiders, reptiles, and other animals that become active after sunset. You will also experience the unique sounds and atmosphere of the Amazon rainforest at night.
The night walk is optional and depends on weather, trail, and safety conditions.

Your final day begins before sunrise with an early motorized boat journey along the Alto Madre de Dios River toward the Parrot Clay Lick. The ride takes approximately 45 minutes, depending on river conditions.
Sunrise Visit to the Parrot Clay Lick
The clay lick is a natural riverbank rich in minerals and salts. During the early morning, several species of green parrots gather here to consume the clay, creating one of the most colorful wildlife displays in the Manu Cultural Zone.
From a safe observation point, you may see three or four different parrot species arriving in groups while listening to the sounds of the rainforest at sunrise. This behavior is believed to help the birds obtain essential minerals and reduce the effects of certain natural toxins found in their diet.
Wildlife activity depends on the weather, season, river conditions, and natural behavior of the birds, so sightings cannot be guaranteed.
Return to Paititi Lodge and Breakfast
After the clay lick experience, we will return by boat to Paititi Jungle Lodge, where a hearty breakfast will be served.
You will then have time to collect your belongings and prepare for the return journey to Cusco.
Boat Journey to Puerto Atalaya
We will board the motorized boat once again and travel along the Alto Madre de Dios River toward Puerto Atalaya.
During the journey, you can enjoy your final views of the rainforest, riverbanks, and surrounding mountains. There may also be opportunities to observe tropical birds, monkeys, butterflies, and other wildlife along the route.
Return Journey Through Pilcopata and the Cloud Forest
At Puerto Atalaya, our private tourist transportation will be waiting to begin the drive back to Cusco.
The route passes through Pilcopata, Patria, Chontachaca, and the cloud forest before gradually ascending toward the Andean highlands.
Along the way, you will have a final opportunity to admire the dense vegetation, waterfalls, mist-covered mountains, orchids, giant ferns, and panoramic landscapes of the Manu region. Short stops may be made for rest, photography, or wildlife observation, depending on the schedule and road conditions.
Arrival in Cusco
We expect to arrive in Cusco between approximately 6:30 PM and 7:00 PM.
The exact arrival time may vary depending on river levels, weather, road conditions, traffic, and the pace of the group. The tour concludes in Cusco after three unforgettable days exploring the cloud forest, Amazon rainforest, rivers, lakes, and wildlife of the Manu Cultural Zone.

Meals During the Tour

Transportation of Luggage and Equipment
Your main travel bag and the necessary tour equipment will be transported between the accommodations by vehicle and motorized boat. During the daily excursions, you will only need to carry a small backpack with water, rain protection, insect repellent, personal documents, camera equipment, and other essential items.
Free Luggage Storage in Cusco
Travelers joining the Amazon Tour Manu Cultural Zone 3 Days may leave any unnecessary luggage at the Machu Picchu Team office free of charge. Our office is located at Portal Nuevo 270, Plaza Regocijo, approximately one block from Cusco’s Plaza de Armas. Return and Drop-Off in Cusco
On the final day, the tour ends at the Machu Picchu Team office in Cusco, where you may collect any luggage left in storage. Arrival is expected between approximately 6:30 PM and 7:00 PM, although the exact time may vary depending on weather, river levels, road conditions, traffic, and the pace of the group.
Not Included
Breakfast on the First Day
Breakfast on the first day is not included because the Amazon Tour Manu Cultural Zone 3 Days departs from Cusco very early in the morning. We recommend eating a light meal before hotel pick-up or carrying a small snack for the journey. Avoid heavy food, as the road between Cusco, Paucartambo, and the cloud forest includes several winding mountain sections.
Alcoholic Drinks and Soft Beverages
Alcoholic drinks, sodas, energy drinks, and bottled beverages are not included in the tour price. Purified drinking water is provided during the journey, while additional drinks may be purchased in Pilcopata or brought by the traveler. Customer Cancellation Policy
A non-refundable deposit of USD 180 per person is required to confirm the reservation.
For cancellations made more than 48 hours before departure, the deposit and any non-refundable services already confirmed will be deducted. Any remaining eligible balance may be refunded.
Cancellations made within 48 hours of departure are non-refundable. Travelers who do not appear at the confirmed hotel pick-up point or meeting location will be considered a no-show and will not receive a refund, credit, or date change.
Card-processing fees, bank charges, currency-conversion costs, and payments already made to lodges, guides, drivers, boat operators, transportation providers, or entrance administrators are also non-refundable.
Changes or Cancellation by Machu Picchu Team
The itinerary may be modified, postponed, or cancelled because of severe weather, flooding, unsafe river levels, landslides, damaged roads, strikes, government restrictions, or other circumstances beyond our reasonable control.
Whenever operationally possible, Machu Picchu Team may offer a new departure date, a modified itinerary, a comparable alternative activity, or a refund for services that were not provided and remain recoverable from the corresponding supplier.
Refunds cannot be guaranteed for services that have already been paid, reserved, used, or declared non-refundable by third-party providers.
