TRIP ITINERARY

DAY 01:

Puerto Maldonado → Tambopata River → Jungle Lodge → Introductory Rainforest Walk

Upon arrival at the Puerto Maldonado airport or bus terminal, our team will welcome you and transfer you to the local office for registration and final preparations. Travelers carrying large suitcases may store their main luggage securely and take only the essentials required for the four-day Amazon tour.

We will then travel by ground transportation toward the Tambopata River. At the riverbank, we will board a motorized boat and continue through the Amazon rainforest to the jungle lodge. During the journey, you can enjoy views of the river, tropical vegetation, and wildlife along the banks.

After arriving at the lodge, you will receive a welcome introduction, check into your room, and enjoy lunch.

In the afternoon, your professional guide will lead an introductory rainforest walk. You will learn about tropical plants, medicinal species, insects, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals that inhabit the Tambopata ecosystem. Wildlife observations depend on natural animal activity and cannot be guaranteed.

After the walk, we will return to the lodge for dinner and overnight accommodation.

Meals included: Lunch and dinner
Accommodation: Jungle lodge in the Tambopata area

We will wake up very early and travel by motorized boat to the Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick, one of the most impressive birdwatching locations in the Tambopata National Reserve.

During the river journey, there may be opportunities to observe capybaras, monkeys, tropical birds, caimans, and other wildlife along the riverbanks. A light or camping-style breakfast will be provided during the excursion.

Upon arrival at the observation area, we will wait quietly for the activity to begin. Depending on the weather and natural conditions, different species of parrots and macaws may gather near the clay wall to consume mineral-rich soil. Red-and-green macaws, blue-and-yellow macaws, and several parrot species may be observed.

After the wildlife observation experience, we will return to the lodge for lunch and time to rest.

In the afternoon, we will complete another guided rainforest activity, which may include a jungle walk, river exploration, or wildlife observation near the lodge. After dinner, we may participate in a nocturnal activity to search for insects, frogs, caimans, night birds, and other animals active after sunset.

Meals included: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner
Accommodation: Jungle lodge in the Tambopata area

After breakfast, we will travel toward the entrance of Sandoval Lake, one of the most important wildlife destinations in the Tambopata National Reserve.

We will begin with an approximately three-kilometer guided walk through the tropical rainforest. Along the trail, your guide will help identify plants, insects, birds, monkeys, and other Amazonian species.

Upon reaching the lake, we will board a paddle canoe and navigate quietly across the water. The peaceful canoe ride provides excellent conditions for observing wildlife without creating excessive noise.

Depending on natural activity, you may see Hoatzins, herons, cormorants, jacanas, kingfishers, monkeys, turtles, black caimans, and giant river otters. Giant river otter sightings are possible but cannot be guaranteed because the animals move freely throughout their natural habitat.

After exploring the lake, we will walk back to the river and continue to the lodge. Lunch will be served, followed by time to rest or participate in an additional scheduled jungle activity.

Dinner and overnight accommodation will be provided at the lodge.

Meals included: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner
Accommodation: Jungle lodge near Puerto Maldonado or Sandoval Lake

After breakfast, we will board a motorized boat and travel along the Madre de Dios River toward Monkey Island.

During the guided visit, we will walk through the island’s forested areas and search for different monkey species that live in the surrounding habitat. Depending on the season and animal activity, travelers may observe capuchin monkeys, squirrel monkeys, tamarins, or other Amazonian species.

Your guide will explain the animals’ behavior, diet, social organization, and the importance of protecting their rainforest habitat. Visitors must follow the guide’s instructions and avoid touching, feeding, or disturbing the wildlife.

After the Monkey Island excursion, we will return to the lodge or Puerto Maldonado, depending on the operational schedule. Lunch will be provided when indicated in the confirmed itinerary.

Finally, our team will transfer you to the Puerto Maldonado airport, bus terminal, or your confirmed hotel, marking the end of the Tambopata National Reserve 4-Day Tour.

Meals included: Breakfast and lunch, depending on departure time
Final service: Transfer to the airport, bus terminal, or hotel in Puerto Maldonado
