It kicks off with an 8:00 a.m. pickup from my hotel in Cusco (elevation 11,152 ft / 3,399 m), leaving the city’s buzz behind for a 90-minute drive deep into the countryside. This is where I’d finally get my hands on my ride for the day, a TREK MARLIN 7. Once the bikes are tuned and ready, the real experience begins.

I’d head out on a stunning packed-earth track, ready to soak in the dramatic landscapes of the South Valley. I’m especially desperate to see the incredible Eucalyptus forest—I can almost smell the fragrant air already. It sounds like the perfect spot for a few pictures. The plan is to ride through the local communities of Churubamba and Seccencalle, getting a feel for a more untouched side of the region.

After an epic ride, it’s time to recharge in Andahuaylillas (elevation 10,243 ft / 3,122 m). This picturesque village is famous for a reason, and it’s a big one. It’s home to the Chapel of San Pablo Apostol, a 16th-century church with such surreal and jaw-dropping artwork that it’s nicknamed the “Sistine Chapel of America.” There’s no way I’d miss getting my history fix in a place that legendary. The day wraps up with a return drive to Cusco, arriving back at my hotel around 5 p.m., totally exhausted but buzzing from the adventure.
