Billy is an amazing guide! He was always there to help and to share information with the group. The organisation was perfect. I couldn’t recommand more!!

Amazing experience doing the 4-day Salkantay Trek. Our guides Max and Victor were awesome - friendly, knowledgeable, and made the trip fun. Food and accomodation were unmatched!
There were some additional hidden fees that aren’t included in the tour fee.

THE BEST BEST BEST week ever! If you are adventurous, open-minded and don’t mind getting a little dirty- do not hesitate to book this trip. It enriched my soul on so many levels. If you prepare for the altitude, you have nothing to worry about. Our guide Juan Oros was beyond amazing- I actually cried when we had to say goodbye to him :( He took amazing care of us, while still being fun and encouraging. I felt so safe, kept in the loop and comfortable with Juan- thank you! The trip wouldn’t have been the same without him. If you aren’t sure if you should, I would highly recommend just going for it. You will see a side of life that few are lucky to experience.

The tour itself was a great experience and our guides Max and Victor were absolutely amazing at helping and guiding my friends through the 4 day trek. The accommodation, food and views made it all worth it. I will say the booking process and front office staff did make the initial experience frustrating and when an obvious mistake was made they took no responsibility in helping us to resolve it. As much as I want to recommend the tour guides I will say that be cautious when booking as they fail to tell you of many hidden costs, made several mistakes for our group booking and did not communicate effectively. Otherwise the experience was great!

The Tour Guides Max and Viktor where outstanding, funny and very friendly. They certianly made the Trek a lot more enjoyable and entertaining than I expected.

However, I think the “Machu Picchu Team” Company itself, is a bit of a money grabber (Greedy). I paid $296CAD as a Depsit 3 months before going and then another $213CAD on the night before the Trek at their Main Office ($509CAD Total).

Then they wanted $30USD for a Sleeping Bag and another $15USD for Hiking Poles, which I thought should have been included in the price because how else are you going to do it?

Then when we started the Hike the following day and had to pay $20SOL to get into the National Park, which even though its not much, I thought should have already been included in the price.

In Total, we had 2 Breakfasts, 3 Lunches and 3 Dinners included in our Package which were decent meals. All Water, Juices and Alcohol had to be paid for a long the way, which I expected with Juice and Alcohol but thought the Water would be Free at the Campsites each Night atleast.

Some of the Information we were told in the Briefing was False (for the better) as we got told we would be Camping for Night 1, so I expected to be staying in a Tent but to our surprise we stayed in the Glass Igloos, so not bad haha. Night 2 we stayed in the Luxury Glass Igloos but we were told it would be Night 3? Then on Night 3 we stayed in a Hostel in Aguas Calientes Town.

After completing Day 2, we all sat in a Group and was told to Tip the Horsemen and Chefs, who did a great job by the way but shouldn’t they be getting paid out of the $509CAD I paid to the company?

On Day 3, we all decided to do the Ziplining to cut the Trek down from 24km to 12km but that was an Extra $120SOL, even though the entire Staff were wearing “Machu Picchu Team” clothing. But it was worth it.

On Day 4, we finally got to Hike upto Machu Picchu. There was another option to take a Bus Up and back Down but that was another $12USD each way and I only bought it for the way down.

We were back in Aguas Calientes by 9am and had to wait til 4pm to get on the Train to Ollantaytambo, which was a killer, after 4 Days on the move and no Hostel to chill out in. Dont know why we couldn’t have booked an earlier Train when we asked to?

Me and My Girlfriend nearly had a disaster with the Train, as the other 16 people in our Group had a Ticket for the 4pm Train and ours said 2pm, eventhough we booked it all together. My E-Mail Ticket said 4pm but the Printed Ticket Machu Picchu Team gave us said 2pm??? After a panic and an argument with the Train Staff, she eventually allowed us to board with the E-Mail Ticket, which isn’t normally allowed, for what ever reason??? (The Train left at 5:30pm) :)

The Train is another Tourist Trap as they have a 30 min Fashion Show Performance up and down the Train, when everyone just wants to chill out or sleep, but that isn’t Machu Picchu Teams fault.

Then we had to get a 2 Hour Mini-Van back to Cusco, don’t know why we couldn’t just get the Train straight to Cusco as there was no time to see anything in Ollantaytambo? So we arrived at the Machu Picchu Team Main Office at 9pm, when it could have been earlier if we didnt spend 7 Hours sitting in a Restaurant in Aguas Calientes.

Overall, it was a Tough, Hard and Challenging Experience but well worth it to get this once in a lifetime trip. However, I do wish all of this extra money was presented before Booking. Advertised as $500CAD and ended up being $650CAD + about $200CAD for Water and Food throughout the 4 Days, so be aware.

Also not including the Tips to Max and Viktor, as they totally deserve every Cent that goes to them, as they are the ones doing the hard work and making the Experience 10x better.

We did the 5D4N Salkantay Trek with Machu Picchu Team. Our amazing guides Abel and Jetlie made the experience unforgettable and were very knowledgeable about the trek's history and cultural values.
