My boyfriend and I recently completed the 5-day Salkantay Trek, and it was truly one of the most memorable experiences of our lives.
On day two, we both became very sick, and honestly, it was one of the hardest days I've ever endured. Our guide, Alexis ("Nacho"), went above and beyond to help us through it. He constantly checked on us, encouraged us when we wanted to give up, and somehow kept us moving forward when we didn't think we could take another step. His patience, kindness, and unwavering support made all the difference. Without him, I'm not sure we would have completed the trek.
Once we recovered, we were able to fully appreciate just how incredible this experience was. The scenery was absolutely breathtaking—every day felt like walking through a postcard. From snow-capped mountains to lush cloud jungle, the landscapes were unlike anything we've ever seen. The food was phenomenal, far beyond anything we expected while trekking, and the entire team worked so hard to make sure we were comfortable and cared for throughout the journey.
What made this trek truly special, though, were the people. Everyone we met was warm, welcoming, and genuinely passionate about sharing their culture and home with us. Nacho's love for the mountains, the history, and the local traditions was infectious. He didn't just guide us along a trail—he helped us connect with the land and understand the stories behind what we were seeing. The lessons he shared and the perspective he gave us will stay with me long after the soreness in my legs has faded.
Looking back, the challenges we faced made the experience even more meaningful. There were moments when we doubted ourselves, but thanks to Nacho's encouragement, we pushed through and discovered we were capable of more than we thought. Reaching the end wasn't just an accomplishment—it was emotional.
This trek challenged us, inspired us, humbled us, and left us with memories we'll cherish forever. If you're considering the Salkantay Trek, do it. And if you're lucky enough to have Nacho as your guide, you're in the best hands possible. ❤️🏔️✨

Just finished the 5d/4n trek with Machu Picchu Team and I couldn’t recommend it enough! We had Vlad (the mountain king) as our guide and he brought our group so close with his energy, funny stories, and Inca history/knowledge. Had such unique accommodations and great food, a big thanks to the chefs and transportation guides. Truly an unforgettable experience, with the best people and guide :)
