We did the 4 day Salkantay tour with Miguel and Victor and had a great time! The food was excellent and the hike was well planned :)

Unsere Guides Miguel und Victor sowie die Verpflegung waren super! Es wurde immer auf das richtige Tempo geachtet und insgesamt für eine Lustige Atmosphäre gesorgt. Gerade Miguel hat die Anstrengung (die sich trotz der Höhe in Grenzen hielt) immer durch eine lustige und interessante Geschichte aufgelockert! Vielen Dank für das Erlebnis

Don’t book with this agency. There are many agencies out there, so don’t just go for the cheapest option at the expense of the people who will actually support you during your trip like mule drivers, tour guides and cooks doesn't paid the company. I want to share the following: a guide I met when I did the Salkantay tour with Machupicchu Reservations in January 2026 told me that he still hasn’t been paid by the company, even though we already paid for the tour. It was an unforgettable experience, and both guides were highly professional. He also mentioned that the company has changed its name to “Machupicchu Team” to avoid making payments. I checked the description of this new company, and it makes sense—they even state that the founder is the former founder of Machupicchu Reservations. So the question is: why aren’t these professionals, who do such an excellent job guiding us through the mountains, being paid? Didn’t we already pay for guide services as part of the tour?

I’m currently reaching out to all 16 friends who joined the trip so we can leave reviews. These companies collect money for themselves doesn’t paid their guides. Please avoid booking with informal or unethical agencies ,, I even have direct contact with the guides

In my opinion, for anyone considering the Salkantay tour, I would not recommend booking with these companies, as they do not guarantee proper handling of payments, and your money for the service could be affected at any time.
We were recommended by some relatives who booked the Salkantay tour with Machupicchu Reservations on October 12, 2025. Unfortunately, the company we chose as the best option later rebranded under another name, Machupicchu Team.

I’m really disappointed because my friend Lina told me that the two guides who accompanied us on the Salkantay trek—who supported us throughout the journey—still haven’t been paid. It’s upsetting to think they might be going through this situation.

We did the 4D 3N Salkantay Trek and it was one of the best experiences we have had whilst in South America. The entire tour was extremely well organised and the food whilst on the trek was so delicious and exactly what you need for long days! We really liked our group size of 6 people.
Our tour guide Max was also a definite highlight for us - he brought great vibes to the entire experience and was always on hand to help, share his knowledge and make our trek as enjoyable as possible.
Each day has a beautiful viewpoint or experience and we loved the added option of the zipline on day 3. Would definitely recommend this to anyone visiting Machu Picchu!

My friend and I did the 5 day Salkantay trek and had an amazing experience! Our guides, Edgar and Victor were really enthusiastic and knowledgeable and the food on the tour was great. Would definitely recommend to anyone visiting Peru!

For a change of pace, here’s a review from someone who was at the back of the line of the entirety of the 5 day Salkantay trek.

I was a semi-experienced hiker who only had two weeks to spend in Cusco, and I am eternally grateful that I spent my time with Machu Picchu Team. I only had two days to aclimate to the high altitude before embarking on my trek, so from the beginning I struggled. If it weren’t for my amazing guide Alexis (Nachito) I would’ve been sent back on a bus to Cusco on day 1.

Instead, Alexis encouraged me to finish the hike, without hurting myself physically and still keeping a professional and friendly tone towards myself and the rest of the group. I was never pushed to take extra accommodations (like horses, bus transport) or discouraged due to my physical limitations. If I had another guide from a different company, I would have never had this option and would be kilometers behind my group at all times. I felt seen and supported by my group, and my guide the entire time.

To keep spirits high, Alexis provided extensive knowledge on Incan culture and history throughout the expedition including a devotional ritual at the top of Salkantay mountain which was unforgettable.

As for the accommodations, Machu Picchu Team privately owns most of the campsites we stayed at, providing comfortable and quiet places to rest for the trek. The food from their chefs was absolutely delicious at every stop we went to.

If it weren’t for Machu Picchu team, I wouldn’t be able to look back on this trip with the unforgettable memories that I have now. I would not dream of using another company.

If I had any advice for someone looking to book the trek, it would be this:
1. Book far enough in advanced to secure your Machu Picchu ticket.
2. Book your train back to Cusco from Machu Picchu at the time of booking your tour (the bus isn’t the most pleasant option).
3. Give yourself at least 4 days in Cusco before the trek to adjust to the altitude.
4. Rent your sleeping bag and trekking poles (NOT optional) through the company.
5. Stay positive! The experience is truly what you make it, even if the party is always in the back.

I had an amazing time with Edgar and Victor as a guide. I would really recommend this trip to adventurous people who also like the comfort of good food!

The guides went above and beyond to make sure everything runs smoothly. They made sure everyone was okay and explained the whole process thoroughly.
Additionally, the food was absolutely amazing! Wilfredo kept us fed and ready to trek everyday.
We would highly recommend this trek and company to everyone!
