I did the Llactapata Trek with a friend and our guide José was great!
He gave us all the important information, the accommodation was wonderful and I really can recommend it.

We did the 5D/4N Salkantay tour with Marco Antonio and Franco and had the best time. Marco was so informative, encouraging and entertaining making it the best possible trip! We had so much support from both of the guides the entire time. The food was amazing and so was the accommodation. Marco and Franco exceeded all our expectations and I would recommend them and this experience to anyone! A massive thank you to Marco and Franco, we couldn’t have done it without you!

We did the 4 night 5 day Salkantay trek with Marco Antonio and Franco and we had an amazing experience! Both guides made the trip really special, they were extremely helpful, and they made it really interesting and enjoyable. Marco was really informative and we were able to learn so much about Inca and Peruvian culture, as well as trying local dishes, the food was incredible.

I would really recommend this experience and the guides to everyone, you’ll have the best time!

What to say. If I could give more stars I would.

The first thing to say is the value for money. For what we paid, it felt like a very premium package we were given, the food was incredible cooked by a full-time chef that followed us through the expedition.

The camp sites we stayed in had some of the most incredible views. Glass Domes where you could see the stars at night.

Our tour guides Nacho and Ellisban were the perfect hosts. They understood the energy of the group, when to add to it and when to leave us to it. They catered for the full range of fitness - always making sure the guys at the back were well supported.

I did the Salkantay Trek together with Marco Antonio and Franco at the end of April, and it was an amazing experience. The guys were incredibly helpful, always giving us clear information and explaining the plan for the next day. They also spoke excellent English and shared a lot about Peruvian culture and the surrounding nature during the trek.

We were very lucky with the weather, which allowed us to enjoy some truly breathtaking views. The accommodations and food exceeded my expectations. The meals were fresh, delicious, and offered a great variety. The accommodations were comfortable, with good mattresses, which made it easy to rest after long hiking days.

I would recommend bringing wet wipes for the first night, as there is no proper shower. I also suggest taking the train after visiting Machu Picchu, as it allows you to spend more time there and avoids having to rush to Hidroelectrica to catch the bus back to Cusco

I did the 5-day Salkantay trek and the accomodations, food, extra activities and the views exceeded my expectations! The experience was great because of our group guides, Marco Antonio and Franco. They were both very informed, organised and positive spirited. I would go anytime again with them for a trekking tour!

For a change of pace, here’s a review from someone who was at the back of the line of the entirety of the 5 day Salkantay trek.

I was a semi-experienced hiker who only had two weeks to spend in Cusco, and I am eternally grateful that I spent my time with Machu Picchu Team. I only had two days to aclimate to the high altitude before embarking on my trek, so from the beginning I struggled. If it weren’t for my amazing guide Alexis (Nachito) I would’ve been sent back on a bus to Cusco on day 1.

Instead, Alexis encouraged me to finish the hike, without hurting myself physically and still keeping a professional and friendly tone towards myself and the rest of the group. I was never pushed to take extra accommodations (like horses, bus transport) or discouraged due to my physical limitations. If I had another guide from a different company, I would have never had this option and would be kilometers behind my group at all times. I felt seen and supported by my group, and my guide the entire time.

To keep spirits high, Alexis provided extensive knowledge on Incan culture and history throughout the expedition including a devotional ritual at the top of Salkantay mountain which was unforgettable.

As for the accommodations, Machu Picchu Team privately owns most of the campsites we stayed at, providing comfortable and quiet places to rest for the trek. The food from their chefs was absolutely delicious at every stop we went to.

If it weren’t for Machu Picchu team, I wouldn’t be able to look back on this trip with the unforgettable memories that I have now. I would not dream of using another company.

If I had any advice for someone looking to book the trek, it would be this:
1. Book far enough in advanced to secure your Machu Picchu ticket.
2. Book your train back to Cusco from Machu Picchu at the time of booking your tour (the bus isn’t the most pleasant option).
3. Give yourself at least 4 days in Cusco before the trek to adjust to the altitude.
4. Rent your sleeping bag and trekking poles (NOT optional) through the company.
5. Stay positive! The experience is truly what you make it, even if the party is always in the back.

Did the Salkantey trek and our guide marco Antonio was incredible - taught us about culture and history whilst also allowing us to have a really fun time! Would 100% recommend him as a guide

If you are planning on doing the Salkantay trek or doing any exploration around Cusco or Machu Picchu Machu Picchu team is the premier company for backpackers and tourists alike!

My friends recommended Machu Picchu team to me and I have to be honest, after reading about the internal drama with the company, I was nervous about what the experience would be like. Read through the saga if you want, but here’s the truth. They are still the best company to do the Salkantay with.

Here’s why: They have the best camp sites, the cooking is amazing, the value for money is incredible, and the guides are amazing. We were lucky enough to have Nachito (Alexis) who made the entire experience fun, entertaining, and easy. He kept the vibes high and encouraged us through challenging parts of the trek. His balance of professionalism and humor helped the group build deep bonds and have fun. He also went out of his way to make people feel special like when he surprised us with birthday cakes to celebrate my girlfriend and another friend on the trip. He even guided us through our Machu Picchu circuit, which most tour agencies don’t do. Most of the other agencies make you explore on your own or tell you to hire a guide for 50-100 soles at the entrance.

The years of experience and connections this company has makes it the best option for those who want to get the most out of their experience. As cliche as it sounds, I’ll never forget this beautiful trek and incredible experience. Thank you Machu Picchu team!

What an experience we've had on our 5 day trek with the Salkantay Trek! Edgar was amazing from the briefing until the final moments! His organisation, logistics, compassion and kindness through each of the 15 members of the group never fell short! I took this trip on a recommendation from a friend who had previously done it - and I can only recommend you go with Machu Picchu Team for a trip that will stay with you a lifetime!
